OOPS! MYSTERIOUS SOUNDS: BOOK 2.
Special voice number 2
[Phodduang]
"Ooh"
"Okay, that's good."
"Ouch! Oh!"
"Your moans are so disgusting."
I glared at my junior.
"deservedly"
The mournful, uncontrollable groaning stopped abruptly, and I smacked the head of the person who had made it. I put my hands on my hips and glared at my junior, who was still moaning in pain. Tum made a pitiful face at his junior, who had just gotten a smack on the head from me after groaning in a terrifyingly suggestive way.
The thing is, Tum had asked me to help massage the swimming team because they were short-staffed. His junior is one of the swimmers and asked for help because they're currently in training camp ahead of next month's tryouts. I've finished my internship hours with the soccer team, so I have free time in the evenings to help Tum.
"With a slap like that, he probably has a bump on his head."
'Pok,' Tum's junior, made a grumpy face and rubbed his head, but his eyes sparkled. Pok is a first-year student and Tum's junior in the same program. He's a cute and playful kid. He looks like an affectionate dog, but he's tall and large, especially with very broad shoulders, typical of a swimmer's physique that relies heavily on the upper body.
"Don't be such a drama queen."
"Brother Phodduang, you're responsible!" Pok moved closer and tilted the part of his head that I had assaulted towards him for a closer look. "Look, I don't even know if it's a lizard's head or not."
"Don't overdo it." I shook my head.
"P'Phod is so mean."
It's making a grumpy face. I want to flick it.
"Come here, you damn brat!" Tum beckoned his younger sibling to come closer.
"No, I want P'Phodduang to continue massaging me." It replied with a cheerful smile, its eyes fixed on mine, making me almost breathless. I shook my head, not wanting to speculate on any hidden meaning in those eyes.
Sigh.
"It's better to let your brother give you a massage. I have errands to run today."
"Where are you going?"
"I have a dinner date with my boyfriend today."
"Wow, so Phodduang has a boyfriend now?"
I glanced at Tum, who was looking at me too. He was probably a little uneasy about what his junior had said.
"Yes"
Pok pouted before shrugging when he heard my answer.
"Staying single for a while might give the kids around here some motivation to practice sports."
"With someone like you, the moment you step onto the field, the girls will be screaming for you."
"Did you scream for me?"
I shook my head quickly.
"What the heck? Is your boyfriend possessive?"
"What does that have to do with my boyfriend?" I asked it.
"If he's possessive, you can drop by here, brother."
It raised its eyebrows and winked.
"Pok"
"I'm serious."
"I'll kick you, you damn brat!"
"I don't want to be just your younger sibling, okay?"
This kid... I shook my head before turning to attend to the other athletes. Meanwhile, Tum nudged me on the shoulder and handed me his phone to show me a video on Facebook. That video is of me massaging Pok's legs. I don't know when he secretly filmed it, but he posted it on his personal Facebook account with the caption...
'I'm in love with someone who's already taken. I secretly watch them every day.'
"It's turning into a song, you bastard!" I sighed heavily, while Tum's face became serious.
"Are you okay?"
"I wasn't thinking anything."
"But my brother thought so," Tum said softly. "I apologise on his behalf for crossing the line like that."
"It's probably just playing a prank on me."
I tried not to think too much about it.
After supervising the athletes' practice, it was almost 9 PM. I parted ways with Tum and walked to the front of the field because Jin had messaged me. I was planning to stop by to pick you up, but in the meantime, the athletes came walking in a crowd. One of them was Pok, who waved enthusiastically before running and stopping in front of me.
"How are you getting back?"
"My boyfriend is picking me up," I replied with a smile.
"My brother..."
It made a grumpy face.
"Pok," I called his name calmly. "I know how you feel."
"What was I thinking?" It asked with a smile.
"Stop thinking that."
"I just like it, that's all. I didn't do anything."
"I didn't do anything," I held up the video in my hand that he had filmed and tagged me in.
"Don't do it again."
"P'Phod" It made a pleading sound.
"I didn't think anything of it. I understand you might have just been teasing me."
"But my boyfriend might not think that way. If he saw this, he probably wouldn't feel good about it." I looked him straight in the face. "I can't control anyone's feelings, but I'm sure I didn’t once give you hope, making you think too much."
It sighed heavily.
"Excuse me."
"Pok, I treat you like a younger brother," I said frankly. "But don't cross the line here, okay?"
"Hearing that makes me so jealous of your boyfriend!"
I smiled when I thought of my lover's face.
"Seriously, is he more handsome than me?"
"Everyone's definition of handsome is different."
"....”
"And most importantly, I don't love him because he's handsome. I just love him for who he is."
"Basically, I came to confess my feelings, but you ended up bragging about how much you love your boyfriend."
"Now do you understand?" I asked him with a smile. "That's fighting for life, but life is fighting back against you."
"Brother Phod."
I shook my head. Just then, the headlights of a motorcycle shone in my direction. It was Jin, who had stopped in front of me. He parked and rolled up the visor of his helmet.
"He's really handsome."
I burst out laughing when I heard a whisper in my ear.
"Okay, I'll give in."
"Yeah, you damn kid."
He made a frustrated sound before turning to bow to Jin, who returned the bow with a smile and then immediately walked away. That made me burst out laughing. Sigh, kids these days.
"You smiled at another guy right in front of me."
"Does that mean you're jealous of me?" I playfully asked him with a smile. Jin leaned down, kissed me on the lips, making me jump. I told him to stop and looked around nervously. I looked to the right, afraid someone might see me. It's nothing, really. I'm just shy and don't want to be teased.
"Jiinnnnn”
"That's my answer."
"Just answer in words, why the kiss?"
"You're so kissable."
I glared at it immediately.
"So this is why he’s so cute, someone secretly filmed him and posted the caption with a song-like, rambling caption."
"He was just playing a prank."
"But did that kid really think so?" Jin asked with a smile, but his eyes didn't smile at all. That left me speechless because Pok really meant what he said.

[Jinna]
I tried to keep a straight face and pretend nothing happened. Of course, it worked, making Phodduang look bewildered. He didn't know what to do, so he immediately gave me a nervous smile.
"Jin"
"Is that true?"
"Mm-hmm," he nodded slightly. "But there's nothing to worry about. I've already cleared things up with him. I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable." I kept a straight face. At that moment, Phodduang gently shook our clasped hands and made a pleading face.
"You're not angry with me, are you, Jin?"
"Not angry. But I'm possessive." It immediately broke into a smile.
"Nothing."
"Good," I squeezed his hand harder. "Because if..." I leaned my face closer, "You're gonna get it."
"What the hell? I didn't do anything with him."
"I know."
"..."
"But we have to blame our own people first," I playfully poked its nose. "What did they do to make the kid so infatuated?"
"I don't know."
It shook its head vigorously and then tilted its head to nuzzle my chest as if to be affectionate. Hmm, cute like a cat. I smiled before handing him a helmet to put on. Done. Then Phodduang straddled my motorcycle and drove off. After that, I steered it to the shop where I used to take my lover to eat regularly. Surprisingly, the shop owner wasn't there today; his son was standing in front of the cart instead. Is he unwell? Because I usually see him there. I'm a regular customer, but it's been almost a month since I last visited.
"Where is Ah-Hia going?"
I walked over and asked his son. He paused for a moment before his expression turned serious. That demeanour surprised me.
"He has passed away."
That answer shocked me.
"What happened?"
"Last month, he was closing the shop late at night when a thief stole his Duncan bag. He fought with him and got beaten up," the owner's voice trembled at the end. His son's face was red, and he looked like he was about to cry.
"He was pushed and hit his head on the floor; he was in a coma for a week. He just passed away last week." That answer left me with an inexplicable emptiness in my chest. I ordered a couple of dishes before returning to the table where Phodduang was waiting.
"What's wrong, Jin? Why do you look so down?"
The beetle asked anxiously.
"I didn't see the shop owner. Oh yeah, is that your son filling in for him?"
"He has passed away."
"Ha", Phodduang looked startled, so I told my lover what I had heard from his son. Phodduang’s face fell, and now I have to reach out and hold his hand.
"People are like that, aren't they?"
"No one knows when we will be separated by death."
"Mmm."
"But he's so pitiful. Every time I come, I always see him smiling."
That statement made me think.
"Life is unpredictable."
"That's why they say time is precious. If you want to do something, do it now, because you might not have a tomorrow."
"Mm-hmm," I nodded in agreement. "So, did you tell me you love me today?"
"Wait," Phodduang glared at me immediately.
"How did we even get back to this topic?"
"You yourself said that if I wanted to do something, I should do it quickly."
"Don't try to sneak in."
I rested my chin on my hand and smiled as I looked at it.
"love"
"Jin!" He pouted, but his pale face flushed a lovely shade of red. "Suddenly, you're declaring your love for me right in the middle of the store!" I chuckled softly.
"You bastard."
It was a dull ache. Just then, the waiter brought our food. I silently observed my surroundings, and suddenly, everything fell silent, despite the bustling atmosphere. For a moment, I heard something whisper softly in my ear. The voice made me stop, and I looked around again.
"Ajin"
"Ajin"
I froze because this time I heard the voice clearly...the voice of the shop owner. My heart pounded with shock. I looked left and right until I saw beetle. It was noticeable.
"What's wrong, Jin?"
"nothing"
I shook my head as if nothing had happened, then closed my eyes, feeling the hairs on my ears stand on end. But soon after, the mysterious sound sounded again. I listened intently before letting out a deep sigh.
"Ah"
The beetle held out a battered, fried piece of shrimp in front of me, its eyes crinkling with a smile, its gaze fixed on my expression as I waited for it to open its mouth.
"It's delicious, try a piece."
I opened my mouth, took the food, and chewed slowly before looking around again thoughtfully.
"Phod Duang"
"Uh, what is it?" It answered in a clear voice.
"I heard it."
"What did you hear?"
"That's the voice of the shop owner."
The beetle jumped in surprise, its eyes darting left and right, looking everywhere.
"Did you really hear that?"
"Mmm."
"W-what did he say?"
"He has something he wants to tell his son."
The beetle froze instantly.
"Important matter"
After the meal, the restaurant owner's son came to collect the payment, so I asked to speak with him privately.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know if you'll believe what I'm about to say."
The shop owner's son looked quite puzzled.
"Ah Hia"
"Yes?"
"Your father kept some important items in the bottom, locked drawer of the wardrobe in his bedroom."
"Wait a minute, what are you talking about? And how do you know the wardrobe has locked drawers?"
"That was the last thing your father intended to leave you."
They looked stunned by what I said.
"You don't have to believe me. But please think about this for a moment."
The other person looked confused before walking away. That reaction made me sigh heavily. As I walked back to the car, Phodduang was pacing back and forth, waiting. As soon as it saw me, it rushed closer.
"How are you?"
"I told him."
"And did he believe it?"
I shook my head.
"I don't know. It depends on fate, I guess," I sighed heavily. "Not everyone gets a last chance to say goodbye."
The beetle moved and landed on my arm, so I gently stroked its head.
"You saying that makes me scared."
"What are you afraid of?"
"I can't help but think about what he said."
The beetle looked at my face.
"Don't be afraid of things that haven't happened yet. Knowing things in advance might be seen as good by others, giving us time to correct things – that's fine, but..."
"It's better not to know anything at all."
"How is that good?"
"Because we don't know when our last day will be, the time we have left is precious."
"..."
"Time moves forward, while our lives move backwards every day as we age."
"Want to become a monk?" The beetle asked with a smile.
"I haven't renounced the world yet."
"..."
"Because I still have concerns," I said with a smile, gazing into his face. "Concern for the people around here."
"You're not just worried," Phodduang said with a smile, "you love me."
He raised his eyebrows and winked as if he had the upper hand.
"You're right."
This time, the beetle paused for a moment, then chuckled softly and moved closer to hug me, swaying back and forth.
"You bastard."
"..."
"May we stay together for a long time?"
I didn't answer, but I kissed his temple.
"Every day you're here is wonderful, Jin. It's really, really good."
"..."
"I love you so much, you know? My boyfriend is a sports science student."
"I love you too, my engineering student boyfriend."
