In Love With An Idiot
Intro
When I’m no longer… what I was, then I have to leave. Those are the rules. It’s as simple as that.
“This is the agreement regarding the three-million-baht debt. There’s no interest. All you need to do, Khun Bao Bei, is work in the company's Public Relations department for three years. Once you’ve completed that, the entire debt will be cleared.”
“Okay. Then I’ll sign it now.”
P’Eng’s final act of kindness… No. I shouldn’t call him P’Eng anymore. I should call him Khun Achitphon.
His final act of kindness was wiping out my three-million-baht debt simply by having me work like any other ordinary employee in the company. I’d even receive the standard starting salary.
I was twenty-three years old, a fresh graduate who had only just attended his graduation ceremony. I’d scraped through university with an exact GPA of 2.00. I probably wouldn’t even have graduated if the reality of my situation, something I had almost managed to forget, hadn’t suddenly come flying back and smacked me square in the face.
P’Eng had been taking care of me since I was twenty. To put it simply, I was a rich man’s kept boy. P’Eng supported me. He gave me a condo and a car, and paid my tuition, food, and living expenses. I lived in luxury and travelled abroad with him whenever he took me along. But P’Eng had one condition.
Our relationship would end when I turned twenty-three or when I graduated.
P’Eng hadn’t told me directly. His secretary had been the one to inform me during my third year that I only had one year left. That reality forced me to start planning my life in a hurry.
It wasn’t as though I was some troublesome kid. I didn’t drink, and I didn’t smoke because P’Eng didn’t like those things. P’Eng liked me to be sweet, attentive, and cheerful. Like an affectionate little cat whenever he came to see me.
P’Eng visited me three days a week, sometimes four. There was rarely a fixed schedule, so I became someone who hardly ever left the condo. Whenever he decided to come, I was always there.
I didn’t dare do anything that might displease him.
Because besides being his cat…
I was also his debtor.
And my debt was worth five million baht.
Where the hell was I supposed to find enough money to pay him back? I couldn’t even scrape together five thousand, never mind five million. I was completely fucked.
At least he was kind enough to forgive two million of it for free. As for the remaining three million, I’d just have to work hard until the three years were up. It wasn’t as though I had another choice.
Once those three years were over, I’d have work experience I could use to apply somewhere else. Then I could gradually increase my salary as I moved along in my career and live like a perfectly ordinary person.
Besides, I’d already been to Europe and all sorts of other countries because P’Eng had dragged me along. There was no longer any need for me to save money to travel abroad.
So… what should I save money for?
Marriage was probably out of the question because I was ridiculously in love with P’Eng. And I’d already got used to being held by him.
Maybe I should save up enough money to buy myself a handsome man to sleep beside and cuddle instead?
Actually… that wasn’t a bad idea.
Since this stupid one-sided love of mine was impossible anyway, and he’d already dumped me—
No. He hadn’t dumped me.
Our arrangement had simply ended, as per the agreement. That was all.
There probably wasn’t anything else I’d need to spend money on for the rest
of my life anyway. I already had a condo. I had a car. Every designer item I owned had been bought with P’Eng’s money. So I might as well spend my own money spoiling whatever handsome men I fancied.
I hadn’t even had the right to look at anyone else for years. Maybe I’d enjoy being the one who got to choose for once.
I… I-I’d probably be happy. Right?
Of course I would!
I was finally going to be able to live however I wanted again! I could act all proud and aloof. If I didn’t like someone, I could simply say—
“Next, please!”
Next in line, come on in. It would be great. Fucking fantastic. So why was someone as lucky as me sitting here hugging a three-million-baht debt agreement and crying like this?
Maybe I was just too happy.
Yeah.
That had to be it.
I was so fucking happy.
Hic…
You heartless bastard, P’Eng.
Just you wait.
I’m going to find someone even more handsome than you.
