"Tell me I'm not dreaming! OMG! When did they start following each other? Okay, the #JJdoesn'tgeteachother saga is over, everyone!"
"OMG! What happened?! Jerome posted a picture of Jinn, and Jinn commented, and they're following each other... #JJdoesn'tgetalways"
"Oh my god, is today April 1st? Can someone please check?!"
"I'm smelling something fishy wafting through the internet signal, or am I just imagining things? Hmmm..."
"It's time to think of a new hashtag, man. #JJdoesn'tgetanyone is no longer valid."
"Alright, it's time to create a new legend, but I don't know which one yet."
"#JJarefriends #JJstopfighting #JJloveeachother #JJaredating #JJgetmarried #JJeateachother Choose one, you guys, or if you have any better ideas, throw them my way!"
More than a week had passed since that night. It had been a week of them being incredibly busy trying to finish their costumes before the end of the semester, leaving them no time for a serious conversation. But what Jinn clearly noticed was that Jerome had become more attached to him—physically, and with his gaze. If they were close, he would touch him; if they were far apart, he would stare, almost without blinking, as if afraid Jinn would disappear. He stared so intently that several of their friends had started to suspect something was wrong.
Jerome is gradually opening up more, no longer as shy as before. It's as if the dream about the future that night made him choose to be less cautious than he initially was, and instead choose to ignore the stares of others.
"This summer break, I'm going to reveal you," Jerome decided decisively.
"Really? But that's good. At least we can escape from our friends." Jinn didn't say anything. It was even better that they revealed their relationship when they didn't have to go to school, even if it was just the two of them. More than a week, anyway. Why isn't it a longer term? At least two months.
"Yeah, you can run away from your friends, but you can't run away from your mother," Jerome said coldly.
"Whatever. I don't think she'll mind. She will just be confused, very confused."
Their parents were well aware that they had both always dated men, so their relationship shouldn't be a problem. The problem was, how were they going to answer all the questions that would bombard them? It wasn't that they didn't want to answer, but they simply couldn't. Should they say, "Oh, it just so happened that Jerome saw our future together, and that's why we started dating sooner"? They may both end up in a psychiatric hospital!
“Okay, if they ask, just answer truthfully, except for the part about seeing the future. I can answer that myself, I’m good at making things up.” Jerome glanced gently at his lover’s profile as he drew on his iPad.
They were in their room, not going anywhere. Before this, the young man thought that after they started dating, they would go on dates and trips as they should, but in reality, they didn’t have that much time. Because they started dating during a project, most of their time besides studying was spent on clothes.
"Or how about this? If we don't want to answer a lot of questions right now, let's just go on a trip and come back closer to the start of the semester."
"Hmm, interesting," Jinn looked up from his screen at the person who leaned in and winked at him mischievously.
"Okay, let's call this a date. We've been dating for almost two months, and we've never even gone to the movies together! This is unacceptable!" Jerome said through gritted teeth.
Before, he used to take the people he slept with to the movies quite often, even though they weren't dating. But now that he has a real boyfriend, he never even goes near the movie theatre. Jerome feels like he's a huge failure. And it's not just him; the young man also thinks that Jinn is flawed as well.
"Yeah, I never thought about it. Maybe it's because we didn't have that sweet, romantic dating phase. We just dated casually, so we didn't really think about those things. Sorry, man." Jinn closed his iPad and gently ruffled his boyfriend's hair, feeling guilty. He'd gotten what he wanted but hadn't taken care of him yet. How could he!
"It's okay, I'm wrong too. Let's call it a draw this time." Jerome loved this feeling so much, the feeling of Jinn giving in like never before. In the past, he would never have admitted fault like this, but now he did it without batting an eye, without any feeling of discomfort whatsoever. This is love, isn't it? No matter how strong someone is, they can soften. But there are some things that, far from softening, are getting harder every day...
"And about that, you've probably seen it already."
After settling the matter of their personal relationships, Jerome asked another question that made his lover roll his eyes in exasperation.
The matter in question is about Jinn’s parents, who are now being seen together more often. Previously, this was kept a secret from him, yes, from society or the media, but from their own son. The young man only recently realised that he has a notorious reputation for having a terrible temper in his mother's eyes, which is understandable. Judging from his outburst that day, she was right not to tell him directly from the start.
The man hasn't really held a press conference yet because he's no longer a celebrity. This can be considered a private matter.
He was just a well-known businessman, not surrounded by reporters swarming for interviews like when a celebrity is in the news. For Jinn, this was a great thing. At least his mother wouldn't be mobbed by so many people. It seemed things were better now than they were then, just like that man said. Well, as long as his mother was happy, that was enough.
"I saw it. Van messaged me the other day asking if my mom was dating that guy. I just said yeah." Jinn didn't want to announce it, but he knew this couldn't stay a secret for long. Because if Jett announced it, he wouldn't just say he was dating his mom; he'd probably say they'd been married for a long time, had a child together, something like that.
Life ahead is going to be quite hectic.
"We'll probably be the centre of attention in the beginning if we announce that we're dating," Jerome wasn't too worried. In fact, the work they'll be doing in the future will involve media promotion, so there will definitely be media attention. The young man thought that Jinn’s path from now on would definitely be good.
"Well, that's it. Sigh. What can we do?"
"Never mind, we'll solve it one step at a time." The taller one planted a hard kiss on the other's forehead, playfully teasing them, before getting bitten on the chin in retaliation, leaving a tooth mark.
After that, the two young men wrestled and fought until they were both exhausted. Their relationship wasn't exactly sweet, but it wasn't so dry that their love for each other was undeniable.
A relationship like JJ's, one that only JJ understands.
“Five of us in the section got A's! So beautiful, so radiant!” Van slumped his face onto the desk, exhausted. His mind felt like the overwhelmingly positive scores had struck it, the professor had just announced. Since submitting the assignments, this has been the fastest grade-release course; grades were known immediately, without even needing to submit answer sheets. The presentation was over!
"Are you really hoping to get an A? A B+ is already great," Farm patted his friend's shoulder encouragingly.
"I was just putting on a show. If I got these grades, my mom would be screaming with joy, I swear," Van said, looking up with a mischievous wink.
"Hey, you two, where are you going during the break? It's time to split up, I think. Mom probably won't mind anymore." Although he said that, Farm's gaze towards his two friends clearly showed scrutiny and a desire to find fault.
“Probably. Why? Do you want to help move? Perfect, I have a lot of stuff. I need a helper.” But would that really corner Jerome? The young man lied without blinking. No, not exactly lying, because he really did need someone to move his things, but it wasn't moving out. It was moving all his belongings from his old room to Jinn’s room. The other person had trouble sleeping in his own room so that he would be the one moving in himself.
"Really? Okay, then. Let me know when you're moving." Farm narrowed his eyes slightly before finally dismissing the thought.
He's probably overthinking things. Are those two actually dating each other? They'd be struck by lightning! They've probably just gotten closer....Right?
Jinn glared at his lover, who was lying to his friend with innocent eyes. "Didn't you say you were best friends? You're lying non-stop!"
Jinn's gaze made Jerome's teeth itch. He wanted to bite Jinn's chest until it was covered in teeth marks all night!
"Are you going anywhere, Jinn? Take me with you. Maybe I'll get some ideas," Van's eyes sparkled as he looked at his best friend hopefully.
"I'm going, but I'm not taking you. This time, I have someone else going with me," Jinn said with a mischievous smile, winking at his friend who was looking at him with curious eyes.
"Who is it? I haven't seen you flirting with anyone lately. There's no news about it in the tags."
"Did you actually follow their tags, Van?" Farm said incredulously.
"Hey, Farm, you don't know anything! I'm keeping up with the news for my friend. That's how good friends behave. Watch and learn from this!"
"You're just being nosy, you idiot. Oh, come on. Don't let me find out you're the one stirring things up," Jinn glared at his friend fiercely. This guy loves creating trouble. Does he think I don't know?
"Oh, Dad, how could I do that? I love you so much!"
"Don't love him that much. Jinn always gossips about him to me," Jerome, feeling a little jealous, added fuel to the fire with a straight face.
"Hey, you son of a bitch! You're lying with a straight face! When did I ever gossip about Van to you? There's nothing to gossip about in his life anyway. He has absolutely nothing to offer. He's always looking for trouble." The accused man kicked the leg of the person sitting next to him hard from under the table.
"Should I be happy about this? Can I apologise for the lack of excitement in my life?" Someone with a simple life felt genuinely resentful.
"Damn it! 'You, Jay, you're not coming with us, are you?'" Farm was once again troubled by lingering suspicions. Everything was so suspicious.
"I don't think I'm going anywhere. It'll be a long break. I'm still wondering if I'll recover."
Once again, Jinn had to force his eyes to stay still. He absolutely couldn't let them dart around and arouse suspicion from his friends. "How can someone lie so smoothly?!" he grumbled inwardly, his voice filled with anger.
"Oh, okay. I'll come to your house later then."
"Always," but you won't find me, huh? Jerome finished the sentence wickedly in his mind.
"So, who did you go with, Jinn?" Van, still not knowing the answer to his question, pressed on.
"It's a secret for now, but you guys will find out soon," Jinn told his friends, and said nothing more, leaving a deep sense of curiosity in the minds of those who were eager to know more.
The curiosity will be revealed along with everyone else in the next few days.
