Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Special episode 5
"Inspector, hello."
"Where have you been, Inspector?"
"Sergeant, the case file is on the table."
The greetings from the officers at the station, who had become more comfortable with their lieutenant, continued to ring out. After years of working together, they had discovered that their lieutenant was the best!
"Yes." "Thank you. I bought you some food." Khamin laughed a little when he saw the sparkling eyes sent at him. "Has Captain Jade not gone back yet?"
"Not yet, Inspector. I heard that you took several people with you before you left."
"Is it about the case?"
"Yes, those who need to deal with it influence the area. This will be a difficult task."
"Sergeant!!! Sergeant!" A panicked voice from the front caught Khamin's attention, prompting him to turn.
“What is it, Sergeant?” Khamin’s gaze fell on his khaki uniform, which was now stained with blood in some spots. “Whose blood is that?”
"It's the captain. The captain was shot." It was as if everything around him had suddenly stopped. Even swallowing his saliva, Khamin seemed to have forgotten what he had to do.
"What happened, Sergeant? Why did the captain get shot?!" One of the subordinates asked in shock.
"While we were arresting the criminals, they returned fire. But suddenly a child ran into the area and was in the path of the bullets, so the captain moved in to block it."
"And where is the captain now?"
“I’m in the hospital now. I just went into surgery.”
“A criminal?”
"Now we've arrested them all. We're bringing them here. But I'm rushing to tell the police first because..."
“Why?”
"Captain, please give this to the Inspector." Jade's phone still had blood stains on the screen. Khamin's trembling hand reached out to take it and hold it, his lips pursed.
"Lock the criminal until I return. No bail. No interference. This is an order."
"Yes!"
Immediate surgery. Khamin drove towards the hospital without caring about how many tickets he would get. After parking the car, he ran into the room on foot.
"Yes, doctor. I'm here to see the servant who was shot. His name is Charuwat."
“Is it the police?”
"Yes"
"The doctor is currently operating to remove the bullet. The bullet has entered a vital area, and the patient has lost a lot of blood. It will take some time. What's the matter with you and the patient?"
"I'm a fan."
"Then if there's anything, I'll come out and let you know."
“Thank you.” Khamin watched the door slowly close. The shock from earlier started to disappear, replaced by fear and regret. Khamin sat on the front chair with a tight feeling in the centre of his chest. Both his nose and mouth started to sting, and water welled up in his chest. Before it could flow down, he hurriedly wiped it away with his slender hand. His heart told him that Jade would be fine and that he shouldn't cry. But as he looked down at the phone in his hand, the things he had tried to hold back came pouring out uncontrollably. Khamin didn't know why Jade had his subordinates give it to him, but as he continued browsing, he found the latest clip in the gallery.
“The captain will come here.
"Okay, I'll be right back," Jade shouted to his subordinates before turning back to the camera. "Have you pressed the shutter yet?"
The awkward gesture made Khamin laugh through tears. His slender hands tried to wipe away the blood stains with an aching heart.
"Khamin, I really don't want to do it, but it's better to prepare in advance. If Min sees this clip, it means something must have happened to Jade, right? Are you crying? Don't cry, because Jade must want to comfort me," the person on camera made a gesture as if he was stroking his head. "Min, you know that our careers are uncertain, right? Even though we've never said it, Jade knows that Min also thinks...
Khamin tried to hold back his sobs as best he could. The tears now blurred the image in front of him. Khamin had to try to wipe them away. He wanted to see Jade clearly, whether in this clip or in real life.
"If something happens to Jade one day, all the documents are in the safe in the office. The code is Min's birthday. You have to open it and look. Do you understand?" Jade made a slightly stern face before changing to his usual smile.
It was the smile that Khamin had always liked, whether it was when they first met or now. He really wanted to see it again.
"Actually, Jade wants to entrust Jay to you, but there's someone taking care of him already so that Jade can rest easy. So if Jade isn't there, and Min really wants to call Jay, have Jay come and keep you company. Jade doesn't want Min to be alone.
Khamin looks back at the clip and then at the operating room door, hoping to see the doctor come out and tell him that Jade is fine. Jade won't leave him alone as he said.
"Even though Jade is gone, Min still has to sleep and eat on time. Don't work too hard and don't skip meals. Jade knows it might be difficult at first, but everything will get better, Min." Khamin shook his head every day. Whether it's now or anywhere else, if he doesn't have Jade with him, it's difficult. "Jade loves Min so much. I'm sorry I had to leave Min all alone.
“Captain, it’s almost time!
“Yeah, that bastard!” The camera suddenly turned off, and the screen went black. The reflection was now a face covered in tears, eyes so hurt they could barely stand.
“Sob, Jade, come back to me.” Khamin hugged the phone to his chest as if he were hugging its owner. Every second that passed felt like a year, long and difficult.
He had avoided talking to Jade about this many times, knowing that he was not ready to lose half of himself. He did not want to think about that day, whether it was him or Jade who had left.
Khamin could only wait, crying, watching Jade's clips again, waiting, crying, looking back at the old photos they had taken together. There were so many of his pictures on this device, whether intentional or photos Jade had taken when he wasn't paying attention. The more he looked, the more it felt like someone was squeezing and hitting his chest, making it hard to breathe.
The two hours he spent waiting ended when the doctor emerged from the operating room.
"W-well, how is he?"
"The doctor has successfully removed the bullet. However, due to the patient's severe blood loss, he needs to remain in the ICU for observation. However, the patient is now out of danger." As if the discomfort and pain in his chest disappeared in an instant, Khamin collapsed to the floor in relief. The tears that fell this time were no longer out of sadness, but out of joy that he had gotten half of himself back.
Khamin sat, looking at the person lying on the patient's bed in the special recovery room, with a worried expression. His slender hand held Jade's and placed it against his cheek, feeling their warmth.
"Jade, wake up quickly. Wake up and talk to Min." No matter how hard he tried, Khamin's voice still trembled. "Min loves Jade, too. I love him very much."
From noon until midnight, Khamin felt exhausted, his eyelids heavy, but he tried to force himself to stay awake, not wanting to fall asleep and wake up to find it was all just a dream.
“Mmm.” A low groan in his throat and a slight movement of his hand instantly made Khamin’s drowsiness disappear.
"Jade! Doctor, I... Min, go get the doctor first," Khamin ran outside to tell the nurses before rushing back to the person on the bed. "How are you? Does it hurt anywhere? Does it still hurt? Sob. How do you feel, Jade?"
Khamin's questions were so loud that the person who had just woken up could barely keep up. But his trembling voice and his lover's tears made Jade understand the situation well.
"Min," a hoarse voice said as a hand was raised and placed on the side of his lover's cheek.
“What is it?”
"Jade... is here." The short words brought peace to Khamin's heart. This is all he really asked for.
After the doctor came in to check on Jade's condition and examine his body, the room was left with only the two of them again. Khamin sat beside the bed, not taking his eyes off Jade for a minute.
"My eyes are so swollen."
"Are you crying?"
“Aum”
“Have you seen the clip on Jade’s phone?”
“I saw it.”
“Come up here and lie down.” Jade shifted slightly. The pain in his wound made him frown.
"No, Jade, go to sleep and rest."
"Jade wants to sleep with Min. Come up here." Khamin didn't want to upset the person in front of him too much, so he carefully climbed up to sleep next to him.
"Jade's really thought as in the clip. I know Min probably doesn't want to talk about it, but things like this happen."
"Smile, Min understands." Khamin hugged Jade's arm and snuggled closer. "I know it was inevitable that something like this would happen, but what Min wants isn't things or a last wish. What Min wants is for Jade to be safe."
"Jade is safe now."
"Uh"
"Let's go to sleep." Jade turned his face to kiss his lover's soft hair gently. Today, he had made a mistake that almost cost him his life. Seeing Khamin's tears only reinforced his belief that if this happened to Khamin one day instead of him, it would be the worst thing for him as well.
After spending almost two weeks in the hospital, Jade's finally returned home to continue his recovery.
"I'm home, Jay."
[Please take care of Brother Jade and Brother Min. Tell him not to be so naughty.]
"You talk too much, dog," Jade interrupted.
"Well, that's all for now. Let me take Jade's into the house first."
[If anything happens, please tell me.]
"Okay." Khamin hung up before walking to help Jade sit in the house. For the past few days, Khamin had been travelling back and forth between the station and the hospital. Instead of sleeping on a comfortable bed, he had to sleep on a hard sofa. Jade looked at the back of the exhausted person, who was walking back and forth, a house to store things and prepare things for him, before sighing.
"Khamin"
“Hm? Do you want anything?”
"Come sit with me, Jade." Khamin obediently walked over and sat beside him. "Min, rest. Jade is fine. The doctor said the wound is completely healed."
“I know, but I want to do it.”
"Min hasn't had a good night's sleep in several nights. Jade knows."
"Min also slept while giving birth."
"Stubborn." The big hand gently pinched the tip of her nose with affection. "Go rest."
"Okay, but let's stay together."
"Then let's go upstairs and sleep. We'll sleep comfortably."
"Can I get up?"
"I can do it. I can still climb something else now."
"Lewd", Jade chuckled softly before walking up the stairs to the second floor, supported by the little person. Before they could go to the bedroom, the two had to stop in front of the office first.
"Jade"
"Yes?"
"Regarding the last words that Jade said, Min has already fulfilled them."
"What does Min mean?"
"If one day, Min is no longer with Jade here, everything I want to say is in the same safe," Jade looked down at Khamin, his eyes trembling. "Min understands that this isn't a last wish, but rather the best preparation possible to minimise the pain for the person we love. So, don't forget to watch."
"But it still hurts."
“That's it.”
The couple's laughter brightened the otherwise sad atmosphere, filled with mutual understanding that what they were leaving behind wasn't a final wish, but rather a willingness to help those left behind live their best lives.
"Kiss my cheek." Jade puffed up his cheeks slightly, waiting for the person beside him to press his lips against his. Khamin didn't object, though, and kissed his cheek.
The tall man gave him a big kiss before heading into the bedroom to take a break from his exhaustion together.
