Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 33
After a week of terrifying events, everything returned to 'almost normal'. Champ, Puti, and Jay were transferred to a large hospital in the city for further treatment. Jade had to return to continue the case because the investigation was still ongoing. He had to collect evidence and wait until he could question and prosecute Puti in court after his condition stabilised.
As for Champ, no matter how high-ranking his father was and how many supporters he had, Jade still stubbornly refused to grant any bail. He was able to negotiate this matter because the head of the special investigation unit, Nikolai, used his authority to help.
"Come check on the patient," the nurse said as they walked into Jay's recovery room.
“Please come.”
"Mr Khamin, have you had lunch yet?" The nurse greeted the person sitting on the sofa, reading a book, in a friendly manner.
"Not yet."
“There’s a delicious made-to-order restaurant next to the hospital. Would you like to go with me?”
“Thank you, but I’m not that hungry.” Khamin put down the book in his hand before walking to the bedside of the person who was still sleeping. “How is he feeling?”
"The patient's condition is stable now. We just can't say when he'll wake up," the nurse said, checking the instruments and tubes at the bedside as she usually does.
"Everything's fine."
“Thank you,” Khamin gently patted Jay’s head before sighing.
He hadn't gotten his position back yet, so his daily routine had become spent watching over Jay at the hospital, wanting to avoid being distracted by the case at home. He still didn't know what the future would hold for him or what he would do if he were really fired.
Every day, Jade would come home late, carrying a huge pile of files. He also had to leave for the station early in the morning, so the conversation he had that night never continued.
Knock knock
There was a knock on the door, followed by footsteps and the clinking of ice in a glass. When Khamin turned to look, he saw that it was Jade, who was fully dressed and had his hair neatly styled, walking in.
“Have you eaten anything yet? I bought you lunch.”
"Not yet"
Jade placed the food he had on the table before walking over to Khamin at his bedside.
“How is he?”
"He's stable, but he's not waking up yet."
Jade gently patted his brother's head on the hospital bed. He would drop by whenever he had free time. If he had time in the morning, he would drop by during the day if nothing urgent came up. However, if he were really busy, he would come in the evening or late at night.
"What's the progress on the case?"
Jade pulled his hand away before turning to Khamin instead. He had been under a lot of pressure lately, not just from higher-ranking officers, but also from the deceased's relatives and even himself. Sometimes it was tiring when he turned around and found no one there. The tall man hugged Khamin before snuggling up against his fragrant neck. He needed a break, and the person in front of him was his resting place.
“I need a break.” Khamin didn’t respond. He just stood there as a resting place for Jade. “Can you wait a moment?”
"What are you waiting for?"
“I’m going to take your position back,” Khamin sighed before gently pushing Jade’s chest.
“That matter isn’t important right now, Jade. You should completely close this case.”
“We started this case together,” Jade gently caressed Khamin’s clear cheek. “We have to close it together.”
“How is the commander pressuring you? How would I not know? By now, the MP must be dying to help his own son.”
“Mmm,” Jade hugged Khamin's neck again before rocking him back and forth like a little child. “My boyfriend is so good.”
"I'm not your boyfriend, Jade."
“I asked for it already. Why not?”
"I haven't agreed yet." Jade took the liberty of kissing Khamin's neck willfully before pulling away and leading the smaller person to sit on the sofa.
"Here's some food from your favourite restaurant. I bought it for you." Jade unpacked the lunch box he had bought and handed it to Khamin. Both savoury and sweet dishes were arranged on the table. The person who bought it kept talking nonstop as if he wanted to please him.
"All your favourites."
“How do you know?”
“Because I like you, I noticed every time you pushed something off your plate.”
Khamin paused when the person in front of him said the word “like” so easily, as if it were a normal word.
"Jade"
"Huh?"
“Do you really like me?”
"Do you want me to tell you one more time?"
“It’s not because I’m representing someone, is it?” Jade, who was drinking water, choked a little when he heard the question. Unfortunately, his future boyfriend was so unreliable.
“Okay, let’s talk seriously.” Jade put down the things in his hand and held Khamin’s hand. The two looked at each other with serious eyes.
After a night of talking on the sofa, they didn’t have time to talk about changing their status or feelings for each other. There would be times when Jade would come and hug them or do things like lovers do, but there was just no status.
“I “used to” like Yuki, but that was a long time ago, Min. Now, he and I are just good friends. You and he have nothing in common. I like you for who you are, the tough police officer, the heavy-handed one, the one who looks…Quiet but actually kind. He's a reasonable person. He loves justice. He's responsible. He's the kind of person who tends to frown when he has something to think about."
His thick hands massaged Khamin's eyebrows before moving down to the bridge of his nose and cheeks.
"He's someone with soft cheeks, which I like." Jade gently moved his fingers to spread them across his full lips.
"You're someone who can gently insult people, but it really stings." Jade moved his face closer to Khamin, stopping when their noses met. "I like you, Khamin. I like everything about you."
Their lips moved closer together, their sharp eyes staring at each other to convey that what they had just said was true, and that it was their true feelings they wanted to express. Only a few centimetres remained before they could experience a touch that would reinforce this feeling.
"What the hell are you doing not answering your phone? Do you have a phone to prop up a table leg, you bastard?!" Leo's voice rang out before he could even see the person's shadow. Khamin pulled away and stood up without realising it. "Oh, Inspector Khamin is here too?"
"Hello, Mr Leo... Mr Yuki."
"I happened to be investigating a case around here, so I took the opportunity to bring the documents that Jade requested."
"Oh, okay... Then you guys can talk business. I'll go get some coffee." Khamin smiled at the two before walking out of the room, but still not escaping the sight of the two special investigation officers.
“What were you doing just now? Proposing?” Leo teased before throwing the documents onto Jade's lap.
"If I ask Khamin to marry me and you interrupt as you did a moment ago, either I or you will be hospitalised, Dee."
"You little chicken, can we talk about business?"
"Let Yu speak"
"Don't mess with my boyfriend, you fucking mutt."
"You're a dog," Yuki shook his head slightly at the two of them. No matter how many times they met, there was no sign of them getting along. So he decided to walk out of the room to help Khamin instead.
Inside the coffee shop downstairs, Khamin was still lost in thought, thinking about what had happened just a few minutes earlier. He had been preoccupied with his work all his life. It wasn't like he hadn't had a physical relationship with anyone, but that had only happened overnight, and they had gone their separate ways. But this was different. What happened to Jade was different.
"Be careful, you might spill it." A deep voice from behind made Khamin jump slightly.
"What are you doing here, Yuki?"
"I'm annoyed by those two arguing, so I came down to help you. How about we sit downstairs and drink some coffee before going back up?" Kami nodded in understanding. The two of them had business today related to the case they were working on.
"What case are you and Leo working on?" Khamin asked to break the silence.
“It’s a case of illegal human trafficking at the port.”
“Have you coordinated with Jade’s? He’s probably busy closing the case right now.”
“No, we already have all the information. We just need to do a final check.” Yuki took a sip of his coffee before looking at Khamin.
“Before this, Leo, Jade, and I were all selected to join the Special Investigation Unit. He’s someone who, if something is serious, will give it his all.”
Khamin just listened quietly with a cup of coffee in his hand. He knew what Jade was like since he moved here. Whatever it was about that person, it made Khamin open up as well.
“He’s not like that with me. He’s never tried to do anything that suggests he wants to develop our relationship beyond friendship. But with you, he’s really giving it his all, Mr Khamin.”
“How?”
“Before you were dismissed from the case and facing disciplinary action, Jade used his position to guarantee that you were undoubtedly qualified to remain as lieutenant. He even called Leo to seek his cooperation, despite the two not being on good terms. He gathered evidence to impeach the commander for bribery, fraud, and abuse of power. He even had to travel back and forth between Bangkok and here without telling you because he didn't want you to worry too much. He's doing his best for you, Khamin.”
“He…” Khamin thought that Jade came home looking tired because of this case alone.
“So whatever he’s doing, he’s serious,” Yuki smiled when he saw that the person in front of him was deep in thought. “Should we go upstairs? I’m worried that Leo will cause trouble first.”
"Yes"
A commotion erupted from inside the recovery room. Khamin opened the door and saw the two people who had been left together earlier, holding a scroll and pointing it at each other.
“What happened?”
"What are you doing, Leo?"
"He says that I will never find a boyfriend in this life," Jade said before turning to Khamin.
"It was because he was the one who annoyed me first." Leo took the opportunity to turn to Yuki to complain about what had happened.
“Are we done talking? Then we can get back to work,” Yuki rolled his eyes, annoyed by his lover’s ups and downs. “Let’s go, Jade. I have something else to do.”
“Um, thanks.” When Yuki dragged Leo out, only Jade, Khamin, and Jay were left in the room, who were still sleeping on the bed.
Jade threw himself onto the sofa, leaning back and closing his eyes. Seeing this, Khamin remembered Yuki's words. He chose to walk over and sit beside Jade without saying anything, only looking at the tired face of the person who had his eyes closed.
"Jade"
“Huh?”
"Tired"
"Just a little," Jade replied without opening his eyes to look.
“So, is there anything I can do to help you relieve your fatigue?”
“Umm, you try hugging me tighter. I might… Khamin,” Jade opened his eyes when he felt a weight fall on him. “Did you talk to Yu already?”
"Um"
“I didn’t do it to make you love me. I did it because I wanted to, so…”
“Quiet,” Jade laughed when Khamin’s tone seemed more like an order than a request.
The two of them just hugged each other like that until almost twenty minutes had passed before Jade lifted Khamin's chin to meet his own. The round chin resting on his chest and the beautiful pair of eyes staring at him made him smile uncontrollably.
“You know I have good news for you.”
“What good news?”
"You'll be back to giving me orders like before."
Khamin tilted his head in confusion until Jade held up the paper in his hand and explained, "The commander was investigated for corruption in his duties, and he was just dismissed from the service an hour ago. Furthermore, Champ's father was also removed from his position as an MP. This means that we've successfully prosecuted him. And... you've returned to being my lieutenant."
Khamin took the paper in Jade's hand and read it carefully again before sitting up properly. It was true what Jade said. These documents were real. Khamin turned to smile at the person beside him. It was a smile that was both happy and grateful. In the past, he had always fought every problem alone. No one understood, no one was by his side, no one had ever fought for him, no matter what it was. This time was the first time, and Jade was the first.
"Tell me, what was the Inspector's first order?" Jade looked at Khamin with a playful gaze. But who would have thought that the person in front of him would suddenly lean towards him and then cover his face with his hands?
“I agree.”
"What"
“My first order as Inspector is… kiss me, Jade. Kiss me now.” The one who was stunned by the unexpected order slowly smiled wider and wider until a dimple appeared on his right cheek that no one had ever seen before.
Jade pulled Khamin's neck closer to receive a kiss from him. His full lips were pressed tightly against each other, grinding and pulling his ass, and biting it, as expected. The two adjusted the angle of their faces until there was no gap between them. The tips of their noses were not far from each other, just like their lips. Jade used his other hand to touch the tip of the chin of the person in front of him as a signal to make this kiss deeper than it was. Khamin opened his lips to let his tongue slide in and sweep inside his mouth. Jade sent his tongue in to intertwine and tease.
The same was true of the two hands helping Khamin sit on his lap. His mischievous hands ran along his waist and hips knowingly. If the sound of the television that was on earlier had gone quieter, they would have been able to hear each other's hearts beating at a faster pace than usual.
Khamin parted his lips because his breath was almost gone. Jade reached out to gently wipe away the clear saliva that had formed from their fierce tongue exchange.
“You already played me so hard on the first order. How will I survive the next order?” Jade held Khamin’s waist and gently stroked it.
“Want to hear the second order?”
“Will this order be as risqué as the first one?”
"Will you be my boyfriend, Jade?"
“Can I fight you this time?”
Khamin smiled before brushing a lock of black hair from his forehead for the owner to catch.
"Does this mean that I now have a boyfriend who is a police officer?"
“Probably so.”
"Then what privileges do you get from being the police lieutenant's boyfriend?"
Jade teased before kissing all over Khamin's chest. Even though his shirt was covering him, he could still feel the warmth from his lips. Khamin's face started to blush slightly, making him even more kissable.
“You won’t be able to fight anyone until this case is over.”
“Really?”
"True answer"
“Khamin”
"Jade"
"I need a hug."
"Okay"
"You smell good, too."
"Okay"
“I need a kiss.”
“I know.”
"I have to..." Both of his slender hands covered the mouth of the person who was about to speak before he climbed off his lap because he heard something on the bed.
Jay.
“That’s all for now, until this case is over.” Khamin got up and looked at the patient’s bed, and what he heard wasn’t wrong. Jay was starting to move. “Go call the doctor. Your brother is awake.”
Jade nodded repeatedly before running outside to call a nurse and then rushing back into the room. He wanted his younger brother to wake up and see him first, so he would know he was still here.
"Brother...Jade"
“Hey, puppy,” Jade gently patted Jay’s head. “Welcome back.”
Even though he knew what his younger brother would face next, he was glad that his younger brother was safe.
This matter has finally been resolved.
