Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.

Investigation Part 32

The hospital, which usually isn't very busy at night, was now filled with uniformed and plainclothes police officers. Nurses and doctors were puzzled by the situation, but there was no time to ask questions.

Jay was rushed into surgery because, in the ambulance, his heart had almost stopped beating several times. From now on, life and death were the same. The same goes for Champ, who had just arrived at the hospital with similar symptoms. Puti, who had been severely burned, screamed throughout the hospital from the pain, shocking and frightening the people waiting for treatment nearby. All three needed close medical attention and police officers to keep them safe.

Khamin was sent to the emergency room for treatment, while Jade ordered his men here and called to give orders on your behalf and to other officers who were still investigating the scene.

[The conditions here are really messy, Captain.]

“Um, collect the deceased's body and all evidence and return it to the station.”

[Understood.] Jade hung up the phone before walking to sit in front of the operating room. He leaned back against the chair before slowly closing his eyes. The phone's ringtone made him pick it up again while he was still sitting in the same position.

“Yes,” came the short reply, coming from the exhaustion and worry in his heart right now.

[Commander, I have been informed that you have led a force to arrest the culprit in the case. Is that correct?]

"Yes"

[That's good. Tomorrow, finish closing the case properly, including removing the MP's son from the case. I already ordered Inspector Khamin before, but he still hasn't done it. It's useless.]

Jade slowly opened his eyes with a cold gaze before sighing without any regard for the person on the other end of the line, not even the slightest bit.

“Probably not, because he would be prosecuted for attempted murder and intentional homicide.”

[What! How is that possible?]

"Let's just say the commander stops interfering with my case with Inspector Khamin and goes to prepare to defend himself."

[What are you talking about, Captain?]

"That's all." Jade hung up the phone, not caring how much taller the other person was than he was. But soon, those ranks would be worthless because all the evidence regarding the caller's character and corruption in his profession had been sent to him by the Special Investigation Unit the day he chose to harm Khamin physically.

Jade closed his eyes again. The case would proceed according to the law, with everyone receiving the punishment and justice they deserved. But now, the three people in the doctor's hands had to survive, including Jay. He felt someone standing in front of him, blocking the light. When Jade opened his eyes, he saw that it was Khamin.

“Do you want me to sit with you?” Jade didn’t answer immediately. He looked down at his hands, which were now wrapped in white bandages. Jade reached out and gently grabbed them, signalling the person in front of him to sit down next to him. “Has a doctor or nurse come out to tell you anything yet?”

“Not yet.” He continued to hold Khamin’s hand, but was careful not to grip it too hard.

“Does it need stitches?”

"Hmm, that's quite a few stitches." Khamin let the person next to him rub his bandages. Because the anaesthetic was still working, he didn't feel any pain. He could tell by Jade's exhausted face that he had been running around dealing with the case until his head was spinning.

“Do you want to go back and rest? I’ll take you.”

“It’s fine. Did you forget that I’m currently on leave? I’m completely free right now.”

Khamin leaned back against the back of his chair, in the same position as the person next to him. They just sat there quietly, letting time pass by. Even though there was no conversation, their clasped hands still showed that someone else was waiting to hear news, whether good or bad.

After half an hour of waiting, there was still silence. The effects of the medicine the doctor had injected into Khamin were starting to take effect, and he began to doze off in drowsiness. Jade removed his hand from the bandaged palm and moved his arm around Khamin's shoulder to face the representative.

“I lent you a shoulder.”

“Just lending it?”

“What's next, Min?" "Huh? You can hold on to it. I don't mind." Khamin chuckled a little before leaning on the broad shoulder and closing his eyes. "What do you want?

“No matter what, I’ll just go back and ask to stay at your house until the matter of dismissal from office is finished. Then I’ll probably go find something.”

“I only take orders from one person.” After a long silence, Jade replied.

“Hmm,” Khamin replied, his voice hoarse as he was almost asleep.

“I only take orders from you.” Not only would he close the case, but he would also take back Khamin’s position.

After two hours, the emergency room door opened. Jade woke Khamin, then walked to hear the doctors' results. There were three people he had to wait to hear from, and he really hoped that no one in there would die from the results.

"Hello, the nurse who spoke with the police has informed me of the patient's condition. The patient, named Champ, is currently in shock due to blood loss from his severed leg. I had to amputate his right leg because by the time he got to the hospital, the surrounding tissue had already died, making it impossible to reattach. The patient is now out of danger."

"Thank you." Rod...but not Jay.

“After two hours of observation in the ICU, the doctor will move the patient to the recovery room. The police can send staff to wait there. Yes.”

"Yes." Jade walked back to his original seat, expressionless. Khamin, who was still drowsy, asked with concern.

"Who"

"Champ survived."

“There are only two left.” Jade nodded before squatting in front of Khamin.

“Why don’t you go rest for a while? You’re starting to feel warm.”

"Never mind"

“Stubborn.” Jade gently pinched the tip of his nose, but he had to stop when Khamin used both of his injured hands to hold his face, his almond-shaped eyes staring at him without looking away.

"Jay must be safe."

"He’s the only one left."

“He’s the only one left, so I’ll just sit here and wait for him. Don’t chase him away, okay?”

Jade lay on Khamin's knee, letting him pat his head to comfort him. He tried not to think negatively, but he couldn't help it. He just didn't want Khamin to see him at his weakest.

The operating room door opened again. Jade got up and went to hear the results again with his heart beating fast. The doctor in front of him had an expression that was neither good nor bad, so much so that he didn't know whose results he was about to hear.

"The patient is out of danger."

“Who?”

"This patient suffered burns. Due to the severity of the injuries, he will be sent back to the sterilisation room of a large hospital in the city. Doctors are currently only able to treat him for shock and protect the wound from the surrounding air. However, his condition has stabilised."

"Thank you." Before Jade could even walk back to his seat, the door was pushed open again. Of course, this time, it was about his brother. Jade felt a hand gently rub his back, trying to comfort him. When he turned around, he saw that Khamin had just walked up to him as well.

"Is the police officer a relative of the patient?"

"Yes"

"Because the patient lost a lot of blood while in the ambulance, his heart went into arrest, requiring repeated CPR, causing his condition to worsen." The doctor's every word was like a nail hammering into Jade's body, numbing every part of his body. "The wound on his chest came within a few centimetres of his heart. Fortunately, it wasn't hit. The patient is now safe."

Jade’s pursed lips slowly opened. The heavy weight on his heart began to lift, replaced by a sense of relief. Khamin, who had been feeling sleepy and experiencing pain from the wound on his palm, also smiled with relief.

"Because the patient has suffered multiple cardiac arrests, doctors need to monitor him closely. Once he regains consciousness, a thorough physical examination will be necessary."

"Thank you, doctor." When the attending physician left, Jade immediately collapsed to the floor. The previously uncomfortable, hopeless, anxious, and fearful feelings were eating him alive. Once those feelings disappeared, Jade felt free again. He had a younger brother.

Both Jade and Khamin walked to the recovery room to wait for Jay to be discharged from the ICU. It was now 2 a.m. The scene had been cleared, everyone had returned to work and rested, and only they were left.

"Wanna get some more sleep?" Jade asked when he saw the person sitting next to him yawn for the third time that night.

"I'll go wait on the chair outside." After feeling relieved that Jay was safe, Khamin's exhaustion returned. He was going to sleep until morning, then wake up to finish the rest of the business. But just as he was about to get up, a hand grabbed his arm.

“Why are you sleeping outside?”

"You'll be sleeping here. You'll get some rest before Jay gets out of the ICU," Jade shook his head before pulling Khamin down to sit next to him.

"As if we've never slept together before," Jade grabbed Khamin's waist before lying down on the sofa. Everything was the same as the first time they slept together, except this time Khamin didn't try to escape anymore.

"I don't have the strength to be nice to you anymore."

Jade smiled and hugged Khamin's waist tightly. It wasn't because he wanted to tease him or annoy him; this time, he wanted to.

"Sorry for being late, and thank you for saving Jay." If it hadn't been for Khamin's help to stop Jay's bleeding earlier, he thought Jay's condition would have been worse.

"What can I do? Your little brother is so cute." Jade hugged the person in his arms even closer, until there was almost no space between them.

“I have something to tell you.”

"Still not listening?"

“Listen to me now. When you have enough strength and recover from the painkillers, you’ll be stubborn with me again.”

Khamin rested his forehead against Jade's chest. He believed the other party's statement was true. He was still slightly dizzy from the drug, so he let the other party do whatever he wanted. At any other time, Jade would have collapsed on the ground.

“I'm not a person who pays much attention to small details. I'm a person who speaks my mind. I take every case seriously. That's why I spend most of my life at the station.”

"Do you want me to listen to you tell me about your personality?" Khamin looked up at the person who was talking and rubbed his back until he almost fell asleep.

“Let you understand what I am like,” Jade leaned down to meet his brown eyes before continuing, “Let you know what kind of boyfriend you are going to have.”

"What's wrong?"

“Wanna be my boyfriend, Khamin?”

“You’re asking me now?”

“When I saw you about to fall from the windowsill today, I was just as shocked as I was when I saw Jay lying injured in the basement. And if I can’t lose my brother, I can’t lose you either,” Jade stared at Khamin with a serious expression.

“You don’t have to answer now. I’m not pressuring you to agree. I just want you to know and think about it.”

"What if I refuse?"

"That means you broke my heart."

"Oh, like when you got your heart broken by Yuki?"

"We haven't even started dating yet, and you're already jealous?"

“Nonsense.” Khamin shook his head slightly. The warm feeling of his lips pressing against his forehead made him pause. “This is too much, Jade."

“Oh?” The one being watched leaned down and kissed Khamin's nose again.

"Khun Jade."

“Yes.” His thick lips pressed gently against both eyelids.

"Enough"

“After tonight, I’ll be really busy.”

"Um"

"So please give me some encouragement."

“Have you only been working for a week? You didn’t need any encouragement before.”

"Well, now that I have you," Khamin pouted before burying himself in his thick chest again. "He won't be clinging to me anymore when he recovers from the drug tomorrow."

"Be quiet, I'm going to sleep."

"I'll hold you like this."

"Yeah"

“I’ll kiss you,” Jade laughed when the person he was hugging struggled a little.

“Okay, I won’t kiss you yet.”

Both of them put down their police officer demeanour, letting go of all the stress from the case, leaving only the comfort and warmth of the person's embrace in front of them.
