Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.

Investigation Part 27

Jade ordered each of his subordinates with a serious expression. He had received a call from Khamin half an hour ago. He was now rushing to find his younger brother and piece together the information Khamin had sent him. Thanakun happened to return with a file of documents regarding Putti.

“Captain, are you sure this doctor is really one of the murderers?”

"Um"

"The arrest warrant has been issued. We'll have to wait."

“We can’t just wait around. The other culprit must be one of these eight kids, so if we can stop him, we should be able to stop the other one as well.”

Jade paced around Khamin’s office, where a pile of files lay. Where did they go wrong, and what did they miss?

"I'll go make some coffee for you." Thanakun saw his boss's serious expression and became stressed as well.

Jade sat down at Khamin's desk and scattered the papers containing information and evidence in an unorganised manner, but it allowed him to see all the information clearly.

Starting from the time of the case, Jay was the one who called him when he was almost unconscious. Normally, no matter how drunk he was, he would never collapse like that. From the audio clip that Champ provided, Cherene said that she and Pui Fai worked together to trick their friends by putting sleeping pills in Pui Fai's glass to make her really unconscious. Cherene pretended to call an ambulance, but in fact, she had planned it with Pui. Then, she had Puti, a forensic doctor, help trick the friends by confirming that Pui Fai was dead. But the incident went wrong because Pui Fai actually died. Neither Cherene nor Puti, the accomplice, expected this. This meant that there was another person who also drugged the others. That person was the one he heard over Jay's phone. And that person was the one who injected all three types of poison into Pui Fai. This opened the murder case this time.

Afterwards, he and Khamin, along with the police forensic doctor, went to the scene to confirm Pui Fai's death and took everyone to the station for questioning. They were then released because no charges had been filed, and they could not be detained for long.

He and Khamin went to see Puti at the hospital to hear the autopsy results. The results showed that Pui Fai had suffered acute heart failure due to the effects of the three drugs used in the execution. The question is, who didn't faint that night? If it were Puti, then why did he do it? And were the autopsy results true?

The second murder happened to Tar at a club. Tar was the first one to make them aware of the Truth or Dare letter. The investigation found hallucinogenic drugs in the body. It was the same drug found in every corpse after that, whether it was Bell, Ton, Kla, or Time. But there was no report of this from Pui Fai's corpse either.

After having Sergeant Prai follow up on the six remaining kids at the university, it was found that all six acted differently than before the murder, especially TonKla. After that, they received a call from Jay, who said Tonkla was the next person to receive the letter. Jade guessed that the time TonKla received the letter was the same as the time Bell received it. Previously, Mirin tried to collect scraps of paper at the scene of Bell’s death and piece them together as best she could. There were fragments of paper left over. She stated a different word from the one in the letter she received, namely, her own name.

Jade guessed that the challenge both Tonkla and Bell received was the same message, only with different names. But how did the villain know who chose whom without having both Bell and Tonkla return the letter? How did the villain know everyone's movements?

“Hello, Sergeant,” Jade decided to call out to one of his subordinates who was patrolling outside.

[Yes, Captain.]

“I’ll send you the address. Check these places out for me. Check for any small spy cameras in the room. Do a thorough search.”

[understand]

The criminals would never know the movements just by looking at their appearance or by observing their movements outside the building.

Jade brushed the seemingly unimportant piece of paper to the floor, making room for other information to take its place. Then, his eyes caught sight of the paper with Khamin's handwriting and a large red circle. It was footage from the CCTV camera in front of Tonkla's dorm.

A person in a black robe covering his face and body was standing where the letters and packages were placed. It seemed like an ordinary action, but Khamin had written, "Acting suspiciously, picking up several packages but not picking up one envelope. Staying next to Tonkla's room." After Jade finished reading the message, he called the same sergeant again to ask him to track down information about the tenant in the room next to Tonkla's and bring it back. Tonkla agreed before hanging up.

After finding Bell's body, they learned that Pui Fai was pregnant and had been taken by a friend to an illegal clinic for an abortion.

There was a CD that he and Khamin had found but hadn't played yet because something had happened. When he realised this, he ran to the garden room and found that the CD was still there. He sat down, put it in the machine, then picked up his headphones and played.

It was CCTV footage from the clinic before it closed. In the video, not many people were using it. There were hardly any people, except for a nurse sitting at the counter. After a few minutes, Puifai was brought inside by Champ and Cherene, with Bell following her. Before handing the money and what seemed to be an appointment slip to the nurse, Puifai looked drugged, and she wasn't fully conscious, as the message said in Bell’s letter. These kids really drugged their friends to get them to have a hard time. Wait, let's get some.

Jade looked on and frowned until the image stopped showing three people sitting outside without talking. Cherene looked worried. Bell was sitting, playing on her phone, not bothered, and Champ was seated with his arms crossed, looking tense. After a while, Pui Fai was brought out in not-so-good condition. Then the three friends took Pui Fai back in that condition.

The person who intentionally bought this CD wanted them to know that Pui Fai was treated unfairly. But who left it behind? Of the three people, two are dead: Pui Fai and Bell. The other two remain, prime suspects because he has not yet been able to contact them.

Jade walked back to Khamin's room, checked the remaining documents, and called the room's owner. After waiting for a while, Khamin still didn't answer the phone. He had to call three times before he got a response.

[hello]

"Where are you?"

[At the checkpoint before leaving the city, someone reported seeing the taxi that issued the announcement, so I came to check it out. Now we're going to look for it.]

“I was going to investigate the hospital’s forensic department because I knew it was definitely one of the culprits.”

[The nurse there told me that he was a quiet person who didn't socialise much with others. However, recently someone had seen him with a woman, who was probably his lover, which caused his personality to change.]

"Who?" Jade asked because he was quite sure that Lo knew who that person was.

[Fai is Fah's girlfriend!]

“I'm not sure, but there are two possibilities: either he just found out about the dangers facing Champ and became a stalker and planned the murder because he was tricked, or else he died because of someone else, and he came to Gai to get revenge by revealing information about his seven friends and then committing murder to get revenge.”

[That's what you need to investigate. He might be working with Cherene because she's Fai's best friend. Or he might be working with Champ because he wants revenge to lead the side as well. Or... Khamin left a comment before the call ended. Jade tried calling Khamin again, but it came back the same way... no answer from the number you called.)

Khamin looked down at his phone, which had died, before throwing it onto the side seat. He drove to the front of a shopping mall, where someone was happy to see the taxi they were looking for parked nearby to pick up passengers. When he arrived, Khamin got out of the car and immediately started looking for it.

“There aren’t many people around. I’d better go home and sleep.”

"Okay, okay. Drive carefully."

"Excuse me, who's the driver of that taxi?" Khamin asked the circle of taxi drivers sitting together, then pointed to the one who had taken Jade away.

"It's me. Where are you going?"

“Did you receive someone from the front of the hospital earlier? It was a young male, about 184 cm tall, wearing a blue hospital uniform and a bandage on his head.”

“Oh, yes, I took the young man myself. Is something wrong?”

"Where did you take him?"

“It’s outside the city. People have opened up farms in that area, so there aren’t many houses. But when I dropped him off, there was a large house. It looked a bit dilapidated from the outside. He said he had an appointment with a friend.”

"Can you take me for a bit?"

“It’s quite far. I’m going home already,” Khamin sighed before picking up Jade's badge and holding it up in front of the driver.

"I'm a police officer working on a case, so you have no choice." The man in front of him looked shocked before nodding rapidly, afraid that he was in trouble. Khamin let him drive ahead while he followed. Meanwhile, he charged his phone to contact Jade and call for backup in case anything happened. Now, he hopes that Jade's side can investigate further and find the culprit.

Jade grabbed his jacket and car keys and walked out of the room. Before he could even get to the station, Thanakun ran in with his face wide open, waking up with two cups of coffee that were less than half full.

"The...hacker, Captain." Judging by his tired expression, this forensic doctor probably hasn't been exercising much.

"What's up?"

"Way... Hack. Wait, let me take a break." Jade rolled his eyes in annoyance before picking up his phone to answer the call.

"What's up, Sergeant?"

[Captain, I'm calling to report the matter you asked me to investigate. It's true, as you suspected. There are hidden cameras everywhere.]

“Did you bring it all back?”

[Yes, I'm taking it back to the station. As for the other matter that you asked me to check, I've already received it. The tenant who rented the room next to the murder victim's room is named Yotsapol, but he moved out several weeks ago.] Because of this, when the letter was placed, no one would have suspected anything. After all, he was someone in the dormitory. He could easily come and go, and he knew Tonkla's movements very well.

“When you get back, have the IT department thoroughly investigate the origin of the camera. If you find anything, please report it.”

[Understood.] Jade hung up before looking at the person in front, who had now stopped panting.

“Can you speak yet?”

"The hospital just called to say that the person who entered Jay's room is a forensic doctor named Put. He was driving a black Mazda with the license plate number Bor Jor 610."

Jade ran towards the traffic department before checking the hospital's CCTV footage to find the target car and which way it had fled. It didn't take long for him to get the car's last known location from the camera's capture. It was at an intersection outside the city. Beyond this, there is an area where locals tend to farm.

On the other side would be an exit out of the town. Jade had already ordered the officers to intercept the car before ordering all police officers to search their respective areas of responsibility. "Captain, where are you going?"

"I'm going to go after this bastard."

"Then be careful." Jade hurried to his motorcycle, which had been parked here for a while. He then straddled it and rode out of the police station as fast as he could, all the while trying to contact his friends.

[What's up, Jade? // Why are you calling him?]

“Are you free? Is there anything I can help you with?”

[What are you saying?] Yuki replied before Jade heard a commotion on the other end of the line. No need to guess; it was Leo.

“Please find the location of Khamin’s phone.”

[Inspector Khamin? I have his number. Wait a sec. I'll have Sam handle it for you.]

Jade stopped at a red light and waited anxiously for the other end of the line. Even though Khamin was released from the case, he believed that he wouldn't give up easily. As for Jay, he was just as worried.

[I've sent you the address from the last phone signal I got.]

“Thank you very much.” Jade hung up before opening the information Yuki had sent. He found that the place where Khamin was was on the same route he was going. Damn it!

Jade sped up, but because he felt a vibration in his pocket, he had to pull over to the side of the road to answer it, even though he wanted to leave it as it was, because he had more important things to deal with.

"What's up? Tell me the truth." The person who called was Thanakun.

[It's definitely important, Captain. The hospital's forensic department just called.]

“What next?”

[Cotton's body is missing. It's not in the morgue there.]

“Are you sure?”

[Yes, that's what they confirmed.] Jade hung up again before putting on his helmet and speeding up his motorcycle even more, even though it was against the traffic law.

He thought he knew what Khamin was going to say before the call ended.

Khamin was about to say that Puti is cooperating with Pui Fai.
