Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.

Investigation Part 26

Go Khamin stood in front of his room. He sighed before opening the door. The conversation inside stopped immediately when he stepped in.

"Have you arrived?"

"yes"

“I heard that you issued a search warrant and went to question the MP’s son at his house. Is that true?”

“True.”

“Didn’t I tell you that this case shouldn’t have gone too far?”

"I don't understand your overreach. Your MP's son is also a suspect. Further questioning of him wouldn't be considered overreaching."

"Inspector Khamin, it's good to carry out your duties, but you have to know your limits. This case is a shocking one. If it gets out and reaches the ears of the press, and they get your son's name, it will only bring bad results." Khamin looked at the commander, who wore many ranks but no honour worthy of him. The other was a representative of the people, but used his power to support his own interests.

"What are your disadvantages?"

“Do you know how much time I have wasted? Get my son's name off this case now!”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t.”

“How are you going to deal with your subordinates?” The man in the expensive black suit asked with a pressured tone.

“Calm down, sir. I’ll handle this myself,” the high-ranking policeman stood up and walked in front of Khamin.

!!!

The rough palm slapped his smooth cheek without mercy. The taste of blood in his mouth did not cause Khamin to show any pain on his face.

"Don't think that just because you're stationed here, you won't be able to respect the heads of the authorities. Remove my son's name from the suspect list, and I'll let you continue with this case."

"If not, what?"

"I will discharge you from the case."

“There are now five murder victims and one injured. So your son can only be one of two things: one, the next victim, or two, the murderer himself. I don't think his name should be removed from the case.”

“Sergeant!!” Khamin’s collar was violently yanked before the other party threw him and hit him against the cabinet beside him.

"If the commander still can't manage his own subordinates, I'll probably have to choose someone else next quarter."

"Um, Mr MP, calm down a bit." The person in front of him turned back to look at Khamin with a stern gaze once more. "I will discuss this matter with you regarding the use of stripping your rank until a court order is issued. You are suspended indefinitely. Return your badge."

Without hesitation, Khamin had already thought of this. It was a good thing he didn't let Jade come. His delicate hands took the badge and gun and handed them to the person in front of him.

"Who else is involved in the case with you?"

“No more.”

"And don't let me hear about you harassing the MP's son again." The two walked out of the room, leaving only Khamin.

While at the police department, he tried to do the right thing by handling the case impartially and in accordance with the law as much as possible. But this kind of thing always happened in cases involving people in high positions. Having gotten to this point, Khamin had traded it all for his feelings; until now, he was used to it.

He slowly picked up the scattered items before putting them back in their original places. Khamin packed his personal belongings and clothes into an empty cardboard box. A few minutes later, the door to the room opened again.

“Didn’t I let you continue with the case?”

Khamin asked the person who had come in, in a calm tone, before closing the box's lid, preparing to carry it to the car.

"What happened?"

“From now on, you will have to handle this case alone. It might be difficult… Khamin’s face was turned to look at the person who had just entered.

“Who did it?” Jade's eyes widened in anger when he saw the smooth face covered in red handprints. “I asked who did it.

“Forget it. Let’s just leave all the information I’ve collected for you…

“Khamin, stop talking about work. Which bastard hit you?!” Jade's fierce tone made Khamin sigh. “Those two?”

"Jade!" Khamin grabbed Jade's arm when he saw that he was about to walk out. "I didn't accept this so that we would both be fired."

"If you want to untie it, untie it!"

"Captain, please calm down."

"How can I calm down then?!" Jade shouted in the room before everything went quiet. "Fuck!"

Jade tore off Khamin's arm before kicking the trash can, cabinet, and table, causing the things Khamin had just put away to fall out again. However, it was better than having the hot-blooded man go and cause trouble for the commander, because not only would Jade be dismissed from the case, but he would also likely be dismissed from the government service.

After walking around the room until he didn't know what else to do, Jade walked back to Khamin. His large hand lifted to cup his handsome face before he gently used his thumb to smooth over the palm print.

“Does it hurt?”

"It doesn't hurt."

"I didn't ask about the wound."

“Just a little.” Yes, the wound didn’t hurt at all, but it hurt more.

"Fuck, I won't let you come alone." Jade pulled Khamin into an embrace. The person in his arms went quiet before burying his face in his chest, basking in the warmth for just a few minutes.

"I'm really okay."

"I don't like it when anyone touches you, Min, especially when it hurts you like this." The deep voice next to his ear made Khamin laugh softly.

“I thought you’d be happy to work alone without me complaining.”

"Even though I was a little annoyed at first, I want to work with you now," Jade said, pulling away before looking at Khamin and rubbing his cheek again, gently, as if he used a little more force, Khamin would feel even more pain. "I want to work with you forever."

The two looked at each other without saying anything. Khamin's reflection was in his pitch-black eyes, growing clearer and closer as his owner leaned closer. Their foreheads pressed together as if to comfort him. They stayed like that for several minutes. Jade felt guilty and worried, while Khamin felt comforted and encouraged.

A slender hand gently pushed against Jade's chest before he looked up at the person who was still frowning. Khamin then reached out and gently kneaded Jade's eyebrows until they parted.

“You should go back to work. I’ll stop by Jay at the hospital and then go home.”

"I'll send you right away."

"It's okay. You should hurry and find Champ and Serene. I don't think his father would let his son stay here until the case is resolved. If he leaves the country, it will be even more complicated."

“You are stubborn.”

“That's my personality.”

Jade helped Khamin carry the crates to the car. He stood there with his foot on the door for so long that the person behind the wheel sighed. “Will I be able to go today?”

“I will find a way for you to get the seal back.”

"smile"

"And I'll find a way to get rid of that bastard."

“You are a police officer, when will you forget?”

"I don't have a badge."

“What is it?” Khamin looked at Jade’s badge that had been thrown onto his lap.

"Take it with you."

"Jade, Mr Jade, come and take back your badge!" No matter how much he called out, the person who turned around and left wouldn't listen. Khamin could only stare at the broad back before sighing. Who said he was the only one who was stubborn? The captain of this station is just as stubborn.

The pearl white car continued driving until it reached the hospital. Even though he was suspended from work, had no license, and had no right to pursue the case, Khamin didn't intend just to give up. He was able to gather some information without a warrant.

While walking into the hospital, Khamin saw Thanakun approaching him with a serious expression and a file in his hand, so he called out to him.

“In your place”

"Oh, Inspector. What are you doing here?"

“I’m here to see Jay. You came to get information from the forensic doctor as ordered by the captain, right? What did you find?”

“He really is a forensic doctor, but he shouldn’t have been at the scene that day. And most importantly…” Thanakun looked at Khamin with a serious expression. “A week after the case happened, he resigned.”

“Go back and report to the captain and issue an arrest warrant. What about the first victim’s body?”

“I’m submitting a request to move the body. They’ll contact me later.”

"Borrow it. If anything happens, tell me...tell the captain." Khamin almost forgot that he had been removed from the case.

"The captain asked me to come and see Nong Jay as well. I'll go up with the inspector." The two entered, and Kokmin noticed that the forensic doctor next to him kept glancing at him, which made him feel annoyed.

"What's up?"

"Um... there's nothing wrong at the station, right?" Thanakun offered to press the elevator button for him, then pointed at his own cheek.

"Sergeant's cheeks aren't naturally red."

"Um, something happened. I think from now on you'll have to work with the captain instead of me." When the elevator opened, the two of them rushed to the room.

"Oh, Inspector. Hello."

“Did you just eat?

"Yes, I went to check. Nong Jay was sleeping, so I took the opportunity to go buy some food."

"I'll go visit him."

“Please come.”

Khamin walked inside and saw a person on the bed, covered with a blanket. However, under the blanket, the shape was not very human-like. Inside, the room was silent. The curtains were closed to block out the light. There was only light coming in through the door and the headboard. Khamin walked to the bed. His long, slender hand slowly reached out to grab the end of the blanket and yanked it off.

"Shit!"

Jay is gone. He's not here anymore!

"Go call the sergeant to come in!" Thanakun hurriedly ran to call the police outside to come to Khamin. "Where did Jay go?"

“Um, well… I saw that you were still there earlier. Before I went out to eat, I checked and saw that Jay was still sleeping.”

“How can a whole person just disappear? Call for a search party to find out who was the last to arrive.”

"Nurse."

"Thank you, go back to the station, inform the captain about this matter, and then lead a team to search the entire area."

"understand"

“Sergeant, come with me.” Khamin came out to the counter to find the nurse in charge of the ward. “Are you the nurse in the special ward?

"Yes, is there something wrong?"

"The patient has disappeared. I'd like to ask if anyone has seen him. Who was the last person to enter and exit? I'd also like to see the security cameras."

"Yes, you can." The nurse opened the door for Khamin to enter. Every floor here has a separate security camera to monitor patients in the hallways.

"About three hours ago, I went in to dress his wound. He's still here. Then, a doctor will come to check on him. Other than that, there shouldn't be any more."

She had shown the CCTV footage from about three hours before she went up to Khamin to check, and it was true what she had said. The nurse had wheeled a cart full of wound care equipment inside, then came out. No one had gone into Jay's room since.

Twenty minutes later, the policeman guarding the door went to buy coffee from the vending machine at the front before a doctor walked into Jay's room.

“Huh?!” the nurse exclaimed before looking at the picture again. Khamin could see why she was crying.

“How many doctors have to go into that room?”

"Only one person. There's only one Dr Wichai."

“Then who’s the other guy?” Khamin looked back at the man in a gown, a mask covering his face, and glasses. “And what were you doing in the room again?”

"I took some clothes for Jay to change."

“Did you find anything strange after that?”

“No,” she replied, but then suddenly seemed to remember something. “But I found a letter on the floor before I left the room. I think it's for Jay, because it's addressed on the envelope.”

"Here, here. This is when the doctor went in to check on him. At that time, Jay was still here." Khamin looked at the real doctor who went in with the nurse. After a few minutes, they walked out. About half an hour later, the sergeant walked inside, then walked out the front of the room. Ten minutes later, the CCTV footage showed Khamin frowning.

No one is secretly hurting.

No one kidnapped.

There is no violence or murder here.

Only Jay sneaked out of the room and ran away. No matter what's in that letter, this isn't good at all.

“If the police come here, tell them everything I saw. Where can I see the CCTV footage in front of the hospital?”

"I'll take you there." The nurse took Khamin to the hospital's IT department to review all the CCTV cameras in the area. While waiting for the staff to prepare the footage, he asked about the suspicious matter.

“Do you know any doctors in the forensic department?”

"I know a little bit. Why do you ask, Inspector?"

"So, do you know someone named Putti? Yotsapon."

"Ah, I know him a little. But no one wants to get involved with him because he's reserved. He doesn't socialise much. However, he's very skilled." Khamin nodded in understanding. When he and Jade met Puti, he didn't seem like an introvert at all. He was rather cheerful and even excited. Wait a minute..

"But it's good that he has a girlfriend. Lately, things haven't looked as gloomy as before. It's a shame he resigned. I heard he's going to live abroad.

"Sergeant, here's the CCTV footage," the IT officer interrupted. Khamin saw Jay walk out of the nurse's office and hail a taxi nearby. He noted the license plate number and the car's description before excusing the two and heading back to his own vehicle. Khamin drove out behind the taxi he had seen leaving while calling Jade.

[Do you miss me?]

"Jade, please report the seizure of a green and yellow Toyota taxi with license plate number DY 246. Immediately."

[Okay, what happened, Khamin?]

“Jay…Jay received the letter, and now he’s gone from the hospital.”
