Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 25
Khamin hung up the phone with Jay, feeling uneasy. After getting a tip from the junk collector, they headed straight back to the station. But before they arrived, Khamin ordered Jade to stop by a nearby shop to pick up the items he had ordered.
“This is yours.”
“That’s not mine. That’s yours.” Jade looked at the person reading emails on his phone, then at the bag from the convenience store and another bag that Khamin had handed him without even looking at him.
"what"
“Ya,” Khamin looked up from his phone to look at the person who was staring at him. “You have a fever.”
"Then this bread and water..."
“Hmm, let’s have a little something to eat first. We’ll have to stay at the station for a while to investigate the case.”
"Didn't you say you didn't want to be a nurse?" Jade asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling.
“I don’t want Madam to have to collect the body when you’re knocked out. Jay called me just now. Should I call you back?”
“What does he say?”
“Just call and ask. But if it’s during this time, I think you should call and check. He might have something he wants to talk to you about.”
"I'll call him back when I get to the station."
When the pair arrived at the police station, they immediately went into the investigation room. This room was fully equipped with various electronic devices and databases for searching. Khamin had used the room at the far end as his personal room to store multiple evidence since the beginning of this case.
“Where do we start?” Jade asked as he took a bite of the bread he had bought.
“Here, let’s get started.” Khamin held up the flash drive he had gotten from Champ and inserted it into the USB port.
Once it had checked for tracking devices and viruses, Khamin opened it. Inside was an audio file. Khamin put on his headphones and handed the other one to the person standing beside him. “Sit.”
The two sat down next to each other to listen to the audio file, which started silent before a woman's voice spoke up. Khamin immediately turned to look at Jade when the voice sounded like Cherene.
"hello”
"How is it going?”
“Where are you, Champ?”
"outside”
This conversation was definitely between Champ and Cherene. Khamin tried to listen more intently when he started to hear a worried, scared tone in his voice, followed by sobs.
“I… I got the letter. I got it, Champ. What am I going to do now?
“There is one thing I want to ask.
"Wha...what's the matter?
“The day Fai died, what did you talk about with Fai?
“Just general matters, about Fai’s illness, about her health.”
“Don't lie to me.
“I'm talking about....
“I saw you take the bottle of medicine from Fai. If you don’t tell the truth, whatever happens, my lawyer won’t be able to help you, Sir.
"Another one, Fai and I agreed that we would pretend to have a heart attack. Gave me a bottle of sleeping pills and told me to pour them into his glass. Sob."
Cherene spoke. Khamin and Jade frowned even more with doubt and confusion, not thinking that it would be an intentional prank like what
“So what next?
“I… I didn’t know how much to put in, so I just put it all in. I thought it was just a knockout.
“If she just fainted, then when everyone woke up, why did Fai turn out to be dead?
"Because... sob, the doctor who came, we hired him... sob, we hired him to tell us all that Fai died so it would be realistic, but... sob, but I didn't think that there would be a mistake that would cause Fai to really die, Champ, I didn't mean to.
The entire conversation was cut off. Khamin listened to the whole thing again to make sure before handing the paper with the message to Jade. When the tall man finished reading, he took off his headphones, walked out of the room, and immediately called Thanakun.
[Yes, Captain.]
"Where is"
[I'm in my room. Is something wrong?]
“Please go to the hospital and find the forensic doctor who was at the scene that day.”
[Can I please have more information?]
“Preliminary information is that he was the first forensic doctor to arrive at the scene. His nickname is Puti, his real name is Yotsapol.”
[Sure, I'll take a look for you.]
"Please bring Fai's body back to the unit."
[Yes, I know.]
"Also...please take care of Jay."
[With this much work, my salary needs to go up.]
After hanging up, Jade walked to the forensic department. He opened the door and went inside without knocking or informing anyone first, which unintentionally caused a lewd scene.
"Captain!!!" Manmai shouted in shock before hiding in Mirin's chest.
"Manners, Captain."
"Then how would I know what we're doing?"
Mirin grabbed the blanket and covered her girlfriend's body before getting up and putting on a shirt over her bra. The jet black contrasted with her bright white skin.
"Are you ready yet?"
"What do you want?" Jade turned back to look at Mirin, who was now dressed properly.
"Come get the letter and the tape." Mirin rolled her eyes before walking over and taking both of them out, along with the report file.
“The letter has the deceased’s fingerprints all over it. Other than that, there are none. The tape itself doesn’t have any fingerprints either.”
“Thank you. What about the latest corpse? Did you get anything?”
“It’s the same drug that all the victims take. I don’t know why the perpetrator would use hallucinogenic drugs when they were going to kill anyway.”
“You might want to reminisce about something. I’m going now,” Jade turned around and was about to walk outside, but stopped in his tracks. “Next time, lock the door first.”
Manmai's face immediately flushed red, so she had to pull the cloth over her head. Even though the captain already knew about their situation, seeing them in such a state a moment ago, she still couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
“Continue?”
“Stop it, Rin! I won’t do it anymore,” Mirin chuckled before walking over to lock the door as her boss had instructed.
“Think again.” Mirin walked over and stroked the long legs of the person on the sofa up to their bare thighs. The person who poked his head out from under the covers saw his lover kissing his knees and blushed.
“I don’t know!” The two continued their previously interrupted activity without being disturbed again.
Jade walked back to the investigation room. Before going inside, he saw that Khamin was still listening to the same audio file. His large hand took the liberty of pulling the earpiece and listening softly before handing him the bag of evidence.
“No matter how many times you listen to it, the conversation is always the same.”
“You said you heard a voice when you talked to Jay on the day of the incident, right?”
"um"
“Have you ever wondered whose voice it is?”
“It wasn’t a voice, but a footstep and movement so that it could be anyone.”
"Call Cherene and ask where she is, then come get her and question her about what happened." Khamin took out a cassette tape and handed it to Jade, while he carefully opened Time's letter.
Inside was a black-and-white paper like the others, and there were also photos of the eight children, Pui Fai, Tar, Bell, and Tonklao, whose faces had been crossed out. Another picture was a white background with their usernames and passwords written on it, with a bluebird symbol on top. Khamin opened the symbol's website and entered all the letters. After a short wait, a user account appeared.
Khamin left it open before reading the message on the letter instead, thinking it must be related.
TRUTH OR DARE
TIME
TRUTH
“Someone like you who likes to take secret photos, why don’t you try being in front of the camera yourself? Don’t you like taking photos so much? The last picture you’ll take is one from your funeral. How about that, Time?”
“Is it true that you like to secretly film your partners and post them online to make money from your dirty business without their consent? Is it true that you’re the one who set up the camera to secretly film your friends, Fai, Bell, and Cherene? Is it true that you’re the one who released the clips of Fai having sex with Jay and Champ? The nature of a voyeur and a secret camera is incurable, so why not wait and see what you yourself are talked about?”
DARE
If you can, try it. “If you still love your worthless life, go get your car back. Get your car from your friend’s garage and drive it to the warehouse outside the city.
Jade, who had just inserted the cassette tape into the machine, reached for the mouse to scroll through the screen Khamin had left open. When he scrolled down, he saw a picture of Time's corpse, found at the crime scene, prominently displayed in the most recent pinned post.
Comments were full of speculation, whether it was a photoshoot or a prank. No one knew that it was a picture of someone who had been murdered and was now lifeless.
As he scrolled down, he found numerous spy clips, all involving men and women. The clips didn't look like consensual footage, but more like candid footage.
“Have the IT guys check it and close this account,” Khamin said, running a hand through his jet-black hair to relieve the stress from everything he’s been through.
“Would you like to take a break?”
"never mind"
"Min, should I go wash my face?" Jade reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair away from Khamin's face. His eyebrows had been furrowed since entering this room. I haven't been able to unwind for even a second.
Have you taken your medicine yet?" "Then I'll be right back." Khamin was about to leave the room, but he stopped and reached out to place his hand on the forehead of the person sitting there.
"I've eaten." Khamin nodded before walking to the bathroom to wash his face and eyes.
When the cool water was applied to his face, he felt his mind clear. Khamin stood looking at himself in the mirror to review all the information in his head. If Champ was also suspicious of Cherene, then where were the two of them right now?
In the audio clip, Cherene said she had received the letter, but the first person to contact her was Champ, not Jay, whose brother was a police officer, or the one who had given her the number to contact. Moreover, from the junk collector's account, he also mentioned a woman who entered the abandoned building. If Cherene was the one who received the letter, then what was the truth in the letter, and what was the challenge?
Now, everything is becoming increasingly violent. The scary thing is not the truth that is about to appear, but the challenge in the letter. The criminal seems to have predicted everything. If not, he must have planned it well because he knows his friends in the group well. By challenging Time to get the car from the garage, he must have anticipated that he would go and kill Tonklao there. Whether the intention was to let him see the murder scene, to find someone to distract the police, or to obstruct Jay, everything has already come to an end. Whether they choose Truth or Dare, they will die anyway.
Jade was playing the cassette tape to hear what the spacecraft's sound was like. It wasn't a broken cassette tape; it wasn't incomprehensible words.
His shoulder, "T-T-T-T-T..." He tried to listen intently until he didn't hear the sound of someone walking towards him from behind, until he felt a hand about to touch his.
“Ouch! It’s me!” Jade, who had been pulling the hand towards him, slowly released it before helping Khamin up properly.
"I'm sorry. Are you hurt?" Khamin gently turned the shoulder that had been grabbed. He knew that Jade was quite strong, but he didn't think it would be this much. It's a good thing he cried out beforehand, or else his shoulder would have dislocated.
"What are you doing"?
"Come listen to this tape. It sounds like something is being said." Khamin sat down next to Jade again before putting on his headphones. The sound was choppy and indistinct, so Khamin had to reach out and adjust the machine to speed up the cassette tape.
"Please... let... me... have... a...
Khamin sped up again as it seemed like he was going to say something.
“Please…sorry…Cherene…let…me…go”
This time it was even clearer, and it came out as a word. Khamin increased his speed to the limit, and finally, they got the answer.
“I’m sorry, Cherene. Please let me go.
"Sergeant, Captain, this is bad!" A loud shout erupted as the door opened without knocking. The two turned to see Sergeant Chai running in, looking alarmed.
“What happened, Sergeant?”
"Someone has come to see the police lieutenant."
"who"
"Mr MP and... Commander."
"I'm busy. Take them to my room first. I'll follow you later."
"understand"
Khamin sighed. He had already thought about it since he decided to find the champion at home. This was bound to happen.
"I'll go with you," Jade said, pulling Khamin's hand with a worried expression.
"No need. You go and issue a summons for Champ and Cherene. Find the forensic doctor from the hospital that day."
"Khamin"
"I'm the boss, and you're my subordinate. If you still won't listen to my orders, then leave this case. I'll have someone else take over," Khamin said fiercely before walking out of the room without looking back.
At least, if someone has to be removed from this case, someone has to stay and take over. And he chose Jade to stay.
