Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 22
“Yes, it’s really the same one.”
“This amount would probably cause people to hallucinate for days.”
“Have you gotten anything from the log at the scene?”
“Rin, please wait a moment. It will take time.”
“If you don’t just worry about eating, it’s probably going to work.”
It must be Mirin. While walking to the forensic department, Khamin heard chattering inside. Without being told, he knew that the sound of the rainbow was probably Manmai and the fierce person.
“How are things?” He walked in and saw two girls standing side by side.
"Just in time, Inspector. Here are the test results of the drug the Captain brought and the drug on the victim. It's definitely the same drug."
"Then we just have to find out who bought these drugs," Khamin called Yuki, who had left his number. After waiting for a while, the other end of the line finally picked up.
[Hello]
“I’m Khamin. Did I bother you by calling?”
[No, Mr Khamin will call about the list of buyers of the illegal goods warehouse, right?]
"Yes, my unit has investigated and found that it is the same drug that the criminal used in the case."
[I'll send it to you in an hour.]
"Thank you, Mr Yuki."
“Khamin,” a voice called from behind, making the person on the phone turn to look.
"That's all for now." Khamin hung up before walking over to the panting, soaking-wet person. "What did you do?"
“It was raining outside, so I ran to you,” Jade tried to get his breathing back to normal. Suddenly, it started to rain, and he had to hurriedly get out of the taxi and run into the station.
“Mirin, if you get any information about the bloodstains and fingerprints on the wood, please let me know.”
"Yes." Khamin held Jade's hand and led her along without speaking. One person walked in front but didn't let go of the person behind him, while the person following behind him just stared at the other person without looking away.
When they arrived at the office, Khamin had Jade sit on the sofa before walking over to open the side cabinet, taking out a new set of casual clothes and a towel, and handing them to him. He also reached over to grab a first-aid kit and placed it there.
“Take off your shirt.” Jade took off his jacket, then his tank top, which was soaked through. “I’ll dress your wound first, and then you can change your clothes.”
“Is this your outfit?”
"Um, just a spare. I haven't worn it yet." Jade took the liberty of grabbing Khamin's waist before looking up at the room's owner.
“You’re only this big. Can I wear this?”
"If you're too fussy, just take off your clothes and walk." Khamin brushed away the large hand that was rubbing his waist before sitting down next to him and slowly unwrapping the bandage that was starting to bleed.
“If I really have to walk around naked, then you’ll be the first to see it.”
“Did the rain wash your mind too?” Khamin didn’t look up at the person in front of him because he was busy treating his wound. However, he could feel that the person’s gaze was filled with teasing.
"I came all the way here."
“Do I have to thank you?”
“What you’re doing right now is a thank you,” Khamin said, looking up at the person who had been talking nonstop. He noticed that their noses were less than a cubit apart. Jade’s wide smile, showing off his small fangs, really matched his sharp eyes.
“Really?”
“If you don’t stop playing, I’ll let you treat your wounds yourself.”
“You are not that cruel.”
“How do you know?”
"Because I'm the only one who knows you well." Jade moved his face closer until their noses, which had once been far apart, were now together. That allowed him to see Khamin's hazelnut eyes, which matched his own and his long eyelashes. If he got a little closer... "Ouch!! Khamin!"
Jade screamed when the hand that had gently treated the wound pressed the gauze down without holding back. Khamin slowly moved his face away before finishing dressing the wound without saying anything else.
"Go change in your room and then we'll talk about work." The police lieutenant stood up and walked to his desk. He opened a file and jotted down some notes. Jade pressed his tongue against his cheek because he felt like he was being teased. How could he let that happen? "What are you doing?"
“How do you change your clothes?”
"I'll let you go change in your own room."
Jade ignored him before unbuckling his belt without taking his eyes off Khamin. The buttons on his pants were undone next, before his large hands slowly unzipped them. He hoped the other would be so embarrassed that he would look away or get angry. But Khamin…
"Aren't you going to take it off anymore? Go ahead, Jade. Since you're going to take it off anyway." Khamin put down his pen and rested his chin on his hand, looking at the large, naked man standing in front of him.
"I really took it off."
“Um, I'm waiting.”
"I'm serious, Min."
"I know. Or do you want me to help you take it off?" Jade saw the sparkling eyes of the person in front of him, something he had never seen before, and he froze. Seeing Khamin stand up, it turned out he was the one trying to retreat.
"What will you do?"
"Weren't you challenging me just now?" Khamin walked in front of Jade before slowly running his hands down his chest, down to his biceps, his abs, and his beautiful V-line, until he reached the waistband of his pants that was unbuttoned.
"Khamin"
"Yes?" The smile in the corner of his mouth and the seductive look made Jade frown slightly, forcing his rapid breathing to slow. Khamin continued to caress the waist and the edge of his pants before his slender hands removed them, leaving only his black underwear. "Do you want me to take off the last piece for you?"
"Enough, turn around." Jade grabbed Khamin's shoulders before turning him to face the door.
The sound of clothes being put on behind him made Khamin chuckle in his throat and shake his head slightly. He wasn't the type to give in easily, but he had to admit that this teasing was a bit too much. He could feel the heat on his face right now, so he could tell. He had to keep looking at Jade's face because he didn't want to see anything else.
“Where’s the photo you said you found in Jay’s bag?” Khamin asked, his back still turned.
The other things were “in the bag.” The sound of footsteps let Khamin know that Jade was probably already dressed before the four Polaroid photos were handed over. All the images were of each victim's corpse. Only the face was captured, showing the paper in the middle of the forehead.
Tar Truth
Bell Dare
Seedling Truth
“Why doesn’t Fai have paper like everyone else?” Jade walked up behind Khamin and looked at each picture again. It was in his mind that he was suspicious.
“Do you remember what I said about Jay calling me the day it happened? And before he hung up, I heard his voice.”
“Um, I remember.”
“If someone were to stage Fai’s death and destroy evidence hastily, those little details might be forgotten.”
“It’s possible. But what about the motive? If there really were two criminals, what motive would have led them to commit the crime?”
“Everything seems to be linked to Fai. Every letter has something to do with Fai. But if someone really wants revenge for Fai, why did they have to kill Fai?”
"I'm going to discuss moving Fai's body to the forensic department, and then have Thanakun conduct a thorough examination. Do you have the contact number for that hospital forensic officer? What's his name?"
"Phut, I don't have his number. Let's stop by the hospital later. We're already very busy. Let's go back and rest first."
"I think I'll sleep here. If I get a search warrant tomorrow morning, I'll be able to go to work."
“Where are you going to sleep? At your desk?”
“Don’t they have rooms available at the station?”
“There are only six rooms. Two are under renovation. The other three are for the police on duty.”
“One more.”
"My room"
"Then you go back home and sleep."
“I’m the owner of the room. If you want to sleep here, come here.”
Khamin narrowed his eyes at the person wearing his oversized hoodie, but it fit Jade perfectly. The sweatpants he was wearing were loose, but when Jade put them on, they looked tight.
When he reached the small room where officers could flirt or sleep while waiting for their next shift, Khamin secretly observed the surroundings. It looked compact but not too small. Three rooms had signs that they were occupied, while the other two had signs that they were being renovated. Only one room had a sign that said it was vacant, and everyone knew that it was the room of the captain who liked to sneak in to take a nap after finishing a case because he was too lazy to go home.
"Come in." Jade unlocked the door and opened it, giving Khamin a teasing look.
The room is primarily white, with a bed, wardrobe, and work desk arranged in a neatly proportioned manner. It also has an ensuite bathroom. Although it's not suitable for living, if you're just stopping by, it's quite comfortable.
“You go home.”
"No"
"Then I'll go back." Khamin was about to turn around and walk back, but he had to stop.
"We might not get the search warrant in time."
"Then I'll sleep here. You go find somewhere else to sleep," Khamin angrily crossed his arms and argued with the person sitting on the bed.
"Sorry, Inspector, but the answer is no." Jade saw that the other party was starting to get upset, so he teased him even more by smiling and raising an eyebrow. This was payback for the pants incident earlier. "But if you want to sleep with me, that's fine. I don't mind."
When Jade saw that Khamin didn't say anything, he thought the other party had given up. But before he could reveal that he was just joking, the person who was standing there collapsed onto the bed beside him.
"Min"
“Quiet, going to sleep.”
A three-and-a-half-foot bed for two men seemed too small. Their bodies would touch as soon as they moved.
“Tell me your plans for tomorrow.”
Khamin chose not to answer Jade's question, but instead turned to lie on his side, facing the outside of the bed. However, the person behind him didn't care about the annoyed expression and continued speaking.
“I think we should go see the kid named Champ first to ask about the car, then go to the illegal clinic mentioned in the letter Bell received to investigate Fai’s abortion, and then go to the hospital.”
"Um"
"Um, is that?"
“Alright then, now be quiet. I’m going to sleep.”
“Sleeping with your back to me isn’t smart,” Khamin sighed before pulling the gun out of its holster and placing it next to his pillow, easily earning a laugh from his bedmate, Jade. “I won’t tease you anymore. Goodnight, Khamin.”
Jade decided to sleep with his back to Khamin so he wouldn't feel too awkward. But who would have thought that during the night, the person on the bed would change their position?
On a moonlit night obscured by clouds, in a bedroom furnished in warm tones, a young woman sat on her bed, hugging her knees, with a worried expression. Cherene looked at the table, which was scattered with things that she had made just hours before. But what scared her was not the stationery that had fallen everywhere, not the lamp that had broken in half, not the textbooks that she hadn't touched for a while, but the bottle of sleeping pills that she was sure she had thrown away, and the white envelope addressed to her name.
TRUTH OR DARE
CHERENE
She hadn't dared to pick it up and read it after seeing it on the table. When she asked her mother, she found out that her mother had found it in the mailbox this morning when she went out with Champ. No matter how much Cherene tried to call him, there was no answer. Even though they had gone out to eat together earlier, Champ hadn't shown any signs of anger and was actually quite normal. She tried to call Tonkla, hoping he would come and comfort her, but no matter how many times she called, there was no answer.
"Hello"
[What's up?] After trying to call for a long time, Champ finally answered.
“Where are you, Champ?”
[outside]
“Can you come to me now?”
[What's the matter?]
“I… I got the letter. I got it, Champ.” Champ was silent until Cherene started to feel uneasy. “What should I do? Sob.”
[I'll come pick you up tomorrow and sleep with you at my condo.]
"Uh, hurry up."
[Have you finished taking care of the matter at the clinic? Are you sure it's closed?]
“It’s closed. I went to check yesterday. The clinic inside moved out a while ago.”
[That's good. If Bell's name is in that letter, we'll all help each other.]
"Um"
[There is one thing I want to ask]
"Wha...what's the matter?"
[The day Fai died, what did she talk about with Fai?] Cherene's face immediately turned pale, but she tried not to let her voice tremble or sound suspicious.
"Just general matters, about Fai's illness, about her health."
[Don't lie to me]
"I'm talking about..."
[I saw you take the pill bottle from Fai. If you don't tell the truth about what happened, my lawyer won't be able to help you, Sir.] The deep, pressured voice on the other end of the line made Cherene feel anxious. The more she looked at the same pill bottle on the floor, the more she felt like Fai was deceiving her, haunting her and not letting go.
“Otherwise, Fai and I agreed that we would pretend to have a heart attack. She gave me a bottle of sleeping pills and told me to pour them into her glass. Sob.”
[So what next?]
“I… I didn’t know how much to put in, so I just put it all in. I thought she just fainted.”
[If she just fainted, then when everyone woke up, why did Fai turn into a dead person?]
"Because... another doctor came; we hired him... sob. We hired him to tell all of us that Fai died so that it would be realistic. But... sob. But I didn't think that there would be a mistake that would really make Fai die again. Champ, I didn't mean to." Cherene cried loudly. At first, when the incident happened, she thought that…
It was still in the plans, but when the doctor she hired made a face of embarrassment and shook his head, and the whole thing became so big that the police were called, she realised that the prank was over. It had really gone wrong.
[Um, I'll pick it up tomorrow.]
“You’re not angry at me, are you? Again, you said yourself that you don’t love Fai anymore. Do you love me, Champ?”
[We'll talk later.] Cherene felt even more disheartened when the call suddenly ended.
She and Champ had been secretly dating behind Pui Fai's back for quite some time before Pui Fai even told her about her pregnancy. Pui Fai had repeatedly emphasised to her that she didn't want to tell Champ about her pregnancy, but because of jealousy, she let it slip. After that, everything seemed to go downhill.
The abyss that leads everyone to hell today
That night, he wasn't the only one who was feeling terrified. A silver car pulled up in a suburban warehouse. The man behind the wheel was shaking from what he had just done. He held the letter in his hand and looked around suspiciously. His large hand slowly opened the car door before he stood in front where the car's headlights could reach.
“I did as I was told!” There was no response. Only silence and the sound of raindrops hitting the tin roof echoed throughout the area. “I won’t know anything!”
His thick hand threw the letter onto the floor in anger and panic, but when he turned to look back at the car, he found that the seat behind the wheel had been replaced by a person in a black robe, wearing a bright white mask with a smiling mouth that reached all the way to his ears. The other party slowly tilted his head to look at him in horror; numbness and fear spread from head to toe until he couldn't move. The car's lights had been switched to high beams, so the young man had to raise his arms to block them and step back to escape.
When he was able to open his eyes again after the light was gone, the person in the black robe had disappeared.
