Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 20
Inside the arena, the lights shone on the two opponents. The stadium erupted in cheers as the referee walked out, meaning there would be no more stopping unless someone was knocked unconscious or killed.
Jade was looking at his large opponent with a fierce gaze. His opponent was jumping around and guarding his face with basic moves.
“It’s still too late to give up now. At least you can leave without getting hurt too much,” Hong Wei said with a snort before raising an eyebrow at Jade.
“Do you usually fight with your mouth?”
Hong Wei stopped smiling before he charged at Jade without a second thought. The punch that came out was not swift, but the wind blew past Jade's cheek, making Jade know that if he got hit, he would probably not see stars for several minutes.
Jade dodged the incoming punches without retaliating. He used his hands to block the Chinese man's kicks before delivering a kick to the man's face, sending him stumbling backwards. The cheers were so loud that it was hard to tell who the audience was rooting for.
“How many fights have you done before you can do this much?” Jade asked before circling, distracting his opponent and annoying him.
“Stop thinking about leaving this place. You will die here!” The provocation seemed to have worked better than expected. Hong Wei changed his attitude, becoming faster and more violent. He lunged forward and grabbed Jade before using force to throw him.
Jade raised his hand to hold his stomach because of the discomfort before he quickly turned to escape the foot that was stomping down. It was said that the bigger a person was, the harder they fell. Jade didn't get up immediately. Instead, he kicked Hong Wei's knee joint, causing the big man to fall to the ground with his knees touching the ground. The young policeman didn't waste any time. He swung his leg up to hook Hong Wei's sweaty neck and slammed him down onto the ground without holding back. But the burly man didn't give up. He punched Jade’s ribs before lifting him until he was in the air and slamming him hard against the bars.
The two of them stared at each other relentlessly, because if they lost sight of each other, they were afraid that it would be a mistake. When Jade spat on the ground, he found blood mixed in. He had to hurry and end this game as quickly as possible, because the longer it dragged on, the more difficult it would be.
“You're a little stronger than before, but you're still weak.”
"You’re about to die, and you still don't know it."
“Let’s put it this way: if I touch you once, you have to answer one question.”
“Okay! But before you ask, let’s get through this first.” It is said that people who rely solely on force have less brain processing power. Hong Wei had just proven that to be true.
The large figure lunged at Jade without holding back, but Jade dodged. Before he got close, he grabbed one of his arms and twisted it, revealing his midsection. The tip of his now bare foot was raised and slammed into his ear, causing Hong Wei to fall in a daze.
“First question: do fighters here have the same rules? They have to be knocked unconscious or dead to be able to leave,” Jade asked, walking around and asking while waiting for the other to recover from the shock of the kick he had just thrown at him.
“Hurry up and answer. I have a few more questions.”
“Yes!” Hong Wei began to feel angry and lost his mind because no one had ever been able to knock him down before he became the favourite here. When he got up, he slammed his legs into Jade and threw a flurry of punches. The good cops sometimes blocked their targets and sometimes missed them, but they were still not seriously injured. Jade used the gap between the punches to punch the ribs before locking the neck of the person in front of him and pulling him down to slam into his knees, making a cracking sound.
“A boy came here to fight earlier. He must have looked pretty bad when he left. Do you know why?”
“You, you!!!” The angry shouts created excitement and suspense for the audience. If the police in the stadium couldn’t bring Hong Wei down, they would definitely not have made it out alive.
The entire battle was under Leo and Yugi's watchful eye. Having received the information that Jade had tricked Hongwei into asking, Leo signalled his partner to begin the agreed-upon task. Yugi nodded in agreement before walking into the off-limits room at a time when all the guards were excitedly focused on the battle on the field.
He walked into a dark corridor with only light shining through the floor. When he got inside, he found three separate rooms. Yuki entered the third room and found the case he was looking for. Twelve young men, no older than twenty, lay battered, lined up on the floor. Each of them had an IV pole on the side. Next to them was a pile of syringes. When he walked in to take a look, he found that it was adrenaline.
"Leo, we found him. Call for reinforcements."
[Um, please check on the police lieutenant for me so that Jade can finally stop fighting so recklessly.]
"Oh." Yuki turned around and was about to leave the room, but found a large guard standing in front of the door.
“Entry is not allowed here.”
“Oh, I didn’t know.” The black gun in the guard's hand was picked up and held. Yuki slowly raised both hands in surrender. As he was walking towards the intruder, Yuki kicked the gun out of his hand before punching him in the face and locking his neck from behind. After a few minutes, the other party’s consciousness gradually faded away.
Khamin, who was watching the battle below, was focused but not so careless that he forgot to be careful. For example, when Sunjae's subordinates moved behind him, he moved too.
“You don’t have to be so careful. I’m a man of my word.”
“Your words were unbelievable from the start.”
“Your subordinates are also very skilled. How could they have held off my number one for so long?” Sunjae picked up a cigar and lit it before turning to Khamin.
“As long as your people don’t play dirty, they won’t lose.”
"Huh, Inspector, didn't you listen to the referee? We don't have rules here. Whatever I can win, I'll do." Sunjae picked up the other gun at his ankle and pointed it at Khamin's head. The young inspector was also pointing his gun at the club manager's head. But worse still, the man in black behind him had the tip of his weapon pointed at Khamin.
“Is this the person who just said he kept his word?”
“Ah, did I ever say that?”
“I told you, exchanging lives isn’t a big deal.”
“Don’t you have someone to worry about, Inspector? Someone is waiting for you at home. Someone is waiting for your return.”
“No.” Khamin’s gaze didn’t show the slightest hesitation. The cold gun pointed at his forehead didn’t make him feel any fear either.
Bang!!!
The sound of a gunshot made Jade look away from his opponent towards the source, losing focus. He kicked Hong Wei's foot, who now had a broken head and a broken left arm, and struck him hard in the ribs. Fortunately, he dodged in time, preventing his ribs from being broken. The sound of the gunshot had come from the room upstairs. He had no idea what was happening outside, so he could only buy himself some time.
"Jade, I got the information. Stop acting all dramatic," Leo shouted from outside.
Hearing the signal, Jade flicked his wrist slightly to relax his fist, which had been trying to conserve energy.
“I don’t have time to play with you anymore.” Jade approached Hong Wei like he had never done before in this entire fight. He didn’t know what situation Khamin was in, and the more he heard the gunshots, the more worried he became.
The punch was thrown with such speed that it was almost impossible to follow. The next thing he knew, the burly man with the gun had already fallen to the ground. Jade straddled him and repeatedly punched him in the face, causing blood to pool from his mouth and several teeth to fly out onto the ground.
He is one of the top reserves in the Special Investigation Unit, so his skills are not inferior to anyone else's. His official position only prevents him from doing anything unnecessary.
Just as Hong Wei was in a daze and unable to defend, a knife was thrown at him. Hong Wei reached out to grab it and slashed at Jade's waist, drawing blood. But instead of the person above escaping, Jade used his knee to press down on the person below's Adam's apple, blocking their airway. Hong Wei struggled, trying to escape and defend, but was always blocked by the large hand. The serious eyes and expression made Hong Wei, who was about to lose consciousness, feel fear for the first time before her consciousness gradually faded away.
The entire arena instantly fell silent when they saw that the unbeaten number one was now lying unconscious in the form of a police officer. Jade kicked the knife away before walking towards the locked door to prevent the fighters from escaping.
"Open!" The fierce voice caused the guard standing in front to rush over and unlock the door. Everyone cheered in unison. Jade was in a hurry to see his police lieutenant, but someone grabbed his shoulder and held him back.
“Where are you going?”
"I heard a gunshot. I'm going to check on Min. Let go."
"Why are you walking so tired?" Leo looked ahead and saw that Yuki and Khamin, along with reinforcements from behind, were restraining Sunjae and the others involved, forcing them to follow him with handcuffs.
“Do you think you can do anything to me? Do you know who works for me?” Sunjae still showed no distress even though he was handcuffed.
"Let's take Mati as an example."
"Tee, both politicians and high-ranking police officers, what do you think is the reason this place is open?"
"Good. I hope that when Don reaches the Special Investigation Unit, you'll give a detailed statement like this." Khamin unbuttoned one button on his shirt and handed it to Yuki, who was walking beside him. "Here, Yuki, are the images, audio, and confession. This information will be used to prosecute both him and those involved."
“Thank you. That was very helpful.” Khamin glanced at the shocked figure behind him. He hadn’t planned on approaching Sunjae directly.
“This case isn’t mine, but the Special Investigation Unit’s. So, I have to say this right here: no matter how high-ranking your backers are, they’ll all be prosecuted.” Khamin glanced away from Sunjae behind him, back to the person in front of him, who wasn’t in the same state as when he arrived.
“I heard a gunshot,” Jade quickly protested before turning Khamin around.
“I shot him,” Khamin said, pointing at one of the subordinates who had been in the room upstairs with him earlier.
In the previous incident, after the other party had a threatening posture, Khamin saw from the corner of his eye that one of his subordinates was moving closer, so he chose to deflect the gun barrel in front of him and turned to shoot the first guard's leg before locking Sunjae's neck and pointing the gun at the tall man's chin. Fortunately, Yuki arrived just in time, took care of another guard, and ultimately helped arrest the club's owner. Just in time, the reinforcements that the special investigation unit had prepared arrived.
“Didn’t I tell you to be careful?” Khamin saw blood seeping from the tank top of his subordinate, who was also his housemate.
“Are you sure it’s okay?”
“Alright, let’s go back. The Special Investigation Unit will handle the rest. Did you get any information?”
“I got it.”
"Are you okay?" Yuki walked in and asked when he saw that Jade was injured. "Should we have the medical team take a look first?"
“It’s a small matter.” Khamin was about to walk to the car to wait, but Jade grabbed his shoulder before he could. “When I’ve taken care of this, I need a list of the buyers at the warehouse in the back. Can you get it for me?”
"Okay, I'll take care of it," Yuki replied to the person standing next to Khamin.
“Thank you, Yu.”
"Who told you to talk to my boyfriend?" Leo, who had just returned from ordering his subordinates to clear people out of the club, immediately grabbed Yuki's shoulder.
"I'll talk to him myself, so what?" Jade raised an eyebrow at the blonde man to annoy him. Khamin, although slightly surprised by what he just heard, chose not to ask anything.
"Inspector Khamin, please come this way."
“Yes.” Khamin took Jade’s hand off his shoulder before turning to look at him. “You should go get the medical team to check on it. I’ll be right back.”
Jade watched the little person disappear. Everything was in sight of his two old friends, Leo and Yuki.
“You little bastard,” Leo said with a mocking tone.
"Choose"
"Inspector Khamin, you made a decisive decision," Yuki said with admiration.
"Um"
“He has placed a high bet on you.”
"Bet?"
"That club owner made a bet on whether you'd win or lose. The sergeant bet that if you lost... he'd resign." Jade frowned deeply before looking in the direction Khamin had left.
"He must have been quite confident in your skills to bet that much."
"I don't want him to resign, but I want you to get hurt more," Leo said with annoyance. The two had been at odds for a long time because of their courtship of Yuki, and they were still annoyed that the first person he loved was a trash in front of them.
"I'm going back now. Please take care of the rest." Jade walked outside into the crowded area, his sharp eyes searching for the one person he wanted to see right now. After searching for a while, he saw Khamin standing with one of the station's officers, his expression serious. "Khamin."
"I told you to go treat your wound first."
“What’s the matter?” The expressions on Khamin and the sergeant’s faces made him ask.
"Something is going on at Tonkla's garage."
"Dead?"
"Um, but Jay was there too. I don't know what happened, but when the sergeant found him, he found Jay unconscious in front of the garage, not far from Tonkla's body. He's been taken to the hospital now."
“Which hospital?”
"Get in the car. I'll take you there." Khamin ordered the sergeant to cordon off the area and called Thanakun, Mirin, and Manmai to go to the scene first. He would then follow.
After giving the order, he drove straight to the hospital. While keeping an eye on the people around him, Khamin reached back for a clean cloth and placed it on Jade's wound.
“Hold it down first, then go and treat the wound when you get to the hospital.”
“Min”
"What"
“Did you bet that bastard that if I lost, you'd resign?”
"Um"
"What if I really lost?"
"So, did you lose?" Jade didn't answer, just stared at Khamin without looking away.
“Next time, be more careful.” The red light in front of him turned green, signalling the car to move.
Just like Khamin's heart, which gradually moved in a faster rhythm
