Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 15
It should be a bright day, filled with soft sunlight, the aroma of coffee, and quiet —a time to be alone before going out into the big, bustling world. But for Khamin, it's not like that. He's sitting at the centre counter of the kitchen, drinking coffee, watching his siblings endlessly argue about breakfast.
"Brother Jade, you're annoying."
"I don't eat undercooked eggs."
"I know!" Jay finished speaking to his brother, then turned back to Khamin with a different tone. "Brother Min, which one do you like?"
“I don’t eat breakfast. Just coffee and bread are enough.”
"That's not good for your health. Then I'll make you a sandwich instead," Jay smiled sweetly at his new housemate, unlike his brother, who was pouting before walking over and sitting next to Khamin.
“Where are you going today?”
“Go to the station first. I’ll see if Mirin has any additional information from the letter. You go and process the search warrant for the children’s home, named Fai. Then, we’ll go find Tonkla.”
"Okay"
"What about me?" Jay handed Khamin a sandwich cut into small pieces.
"Why are you going?" Jade looked at Jay's face before snatching the sandwich from his brother's hand and putting it in his own mouth instead.
"I already told you I'd go with you. Kla is my friend."
"You go wait in my room. I'll go out and find Kla and call him."
"Okay, then I'll put the rest in a box for you." Jay put the beautiful sandwiches in a small box.
“Do you usually do this for Jade?”
"No, he's grown up now. He can earn his own living."
“I’m the same age as your brother, in case you forgot.”
"I'm a special case." Khamin shook his head slightly at the boy's teasing before grabbing his coat and car keys and going out to wait.
"Are you really going to flirt with him?"
"That's right. Why?"
“What are you thinking about trying to flirt with?”
"Well, P'Min is cute. I don't think he's trying to steal me." Even though it seems like a question, the look in his eyes is like he's testing me.
“Nonsense.” Jade didn’t think much of what his younger brother asked. He just finished his coffee and followed Khamin out.
The three of them were in the car heading to the police station. Khamin took over as the driver in place of Jade's because he had to prepare the documents for the search warrant. Meanwhile, Jay chatted with Khamin, mostly asking general questions about the capable police lieutenant. But every answer and every piece of information was already recorded in the young man's memory.
“Are you allergic to shrimp? It’s a good thing I haven’t done anything to shrimp recently.”
“I thought I was going to eat it outside, so I didn’t tell you. Sorry.”
"Are there any other allergies?"
“No more.”
"But right now, I seem to be losing on one thing."
"What"
"lose..."
He flirted with Khamin until the end. "Do I have to specify this?" Jade interrupted him. Jay could only narrow his eyes because his brother's interruption prevented him from telling the joke.
“Specify.”
“I’ve been a police officer for many years. Did you suddenly forget to write a search warrant?”
"Yeah." Jay lightly tapped the seat with his foot to let the two of them know, then moved to the middle and turned to continue talking to Khamin.
"Does Brother Min know that, before he came to work here, he applied to join the special investigation unit? Do you know?"
“I know.”
"But he was only on the bench, so he didn't get to do it. Otherwise, he would have been able to continue his relationship with P'Yu."
"P'Yu?"
"Brother Yukin, Brother Jade has liked him for a long time." Jade glanced at his younger brother before adjusting the seat to a more reclined position.
"When you get there, wake up." After tripping his brother, Jay felt relieved. A smile appeared on his lips before he returned to his seat. If he hadn't courted Khamin properly, he wouldn't have expected his brother to have gotten ahead.
When he arrived, Khamin walked Jay to his office. There was nothing to worry about in the room. Important documents were put away. The cabinet has a code lock, so there's no need to worry about it getting lost. Jade also went off to get a search warrant.
"If you have anything, call me. Don't wander around, understand?"
"I'm not a kid anymore," Jay proved himself by walking closer to Khamin, only inches away. Their faces were so close that the tips of their noses brushed against each other.
"See?"
“You’re still younger than me. Go away.” Jay followed the small back in the white shirt until it disappeared. He really liked Khamin. Not only his looks, but also his personality and his kind-hearted, sharp tongue. He felt that if they spent more time together, he would easily fall in love with Khamin.
The phone in his pocket rang, causing Jay to pick it up, his gaze still scanning the area around the police lieutenant's quarters.
"Hello"
[Jay, did Bell call you?]
"No, is there something wrong?"
[Yesterday I lost my phone and just found it in my car. It was full of missed calls and texts from Bell.]
"Probably just making a scene like Bell." Jay picked up the name tag on Khamin's desk and looked at it. He couldn't help but smile, thinking to himself, "It really suits the petite senior."
“Khamin Khananon”
However, Cherene's next words made the thick hand pause before both of her eyebrows furrowed together.
[But it talks about letters, Jay.)
"note"
[Um, it's making a big fuss. I called it, and it didn't answer.]
"Do you think Bell is at the condo?"
[I don't know, but I have the key card for that room. I'll drop by and take a look.]
"Then, let's meet there." After hanging up, Jay also called his brother, but when there was no answer, he went to the condo.
Jay walked out of Khamin's room and walked down the hallway, calling Bell. However, no matter how many times he called, she didn't answer, and he began to worry. If the letter Cherene mentioned was the same one Tonkla received, then two letters were sent at the same time. So, what happened to Tonkla now?
When he realised this, Jay switched to calling Tonkla instead. The more the other party didn't answer, the more worried he became. Jay, who was staring at his phone and didn't look where he was going, bumped into Khamin at the corner of the building, almost losing his balance and falling. Fortunately, strong arms grabbed the young police officer's waist before he could.
"P'Min, I'm sorry."
“Didn’t I just tell you not to wander around? What are you doing out there?”
"It's good that you came. Cherene called me a moment ago. She said that Bell called and texted her yesterday, but she didn't answer. The text mentioned a letter."
“A letter? Wasn’t it Sapling who received the letter?”
“I think so.”
“Get in the car.” Both Khamin and Jay hurried to the car before driving out of the station. While Jay gave directions to Bell’s condo, Khamin, who was driving, also called Jade. He waited a long time for the other person to answer, but he didn’t have time to complain or scold right now. “Khun Jade, is the police officer who was guarding the front of Tonkla Dormitory still there?”
[Why do you ask]
"Please answer me."
[Wait a moment] The voice on the other end of the line was walking somewhere for a while before he answered. [No, he's back.]
"Mr Jade, can you please go check on the seedlings at the dorm for me?"
[Where are you]
“I was going to the dorm of a kid named Bell with Jay. Cherene said Bell mentioned a letter, so I wanted to go check it out.”
[Why don't you wait for me?]
"Then why didn't you answer when your younger brother called?"
"Brother Min, turn right ahead."
“After you’ve finished watching, if you find anything, call me. That’s all for now.”
Jade sighed before grabbing the station car keys to drive to Tonkla's dorm. He had been discussing the search warrant earlier, so he hadn't picked up the phone. Seeing it was Jay, he was even lazier to answer. He'd been playing a naughty trick on him this morning, so he thought it wasn't anything urgent.
When he arrived at the dorm, the tall man immediately walked upstairs. Jade knocked on the door for a long time, but there was no sign of anyone in the room. So he went downstairs to ask Niti, who was there, to come up and open the door, saying he was a police officer working on an important case. Just then, Niti, flustered, opened it. Inside, Tonkla's room was empty. There was no owner of the room anywhere. He tried to call the number Tonkla gave him, but found that the kid's phone was still there.
"That young Tonkla isn't here," Jade called Khamin to inform him of the news.
(Not here? It might be at the garage.] Jay's voice interrupted, causing Jade to roll his eyes slightly.
“I’ll go check there. Where are you now?”
[In front of the condo, Bell. Please look at the garage where Tonkla works.]
"Um, be careful."
[He's at the garage. I heard he's working early in the morning. His phone is in his locker, so he can't answer any calls. I've already had an officer watch over him.]
“Okay.” Khamin walked out into the living room to look at the letter that had been placed there. After taking a quick look, he looked at Jay in front of him. “I think you should hurry up, Mr Jade.”
[What's wrong?]
"Your brother's name is on Bell's letter." Jay looked at Khamin in confusion. Even though he was on the phone, the look in his eyes told him about the name on the letter.
"And I think the body in the bathroom is Bell, too."
