Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.

Investigation Part 14

Khamin watched the two siblings bickering at the dinner table in a fancy restaurant. At first, the two were talking nicely. After eating for a while, the younger one started serving him food, and the older one followed with sarcastic remarks. The two siblings began to get along well from that point on.

"Would you like some dessert, Min?"

"It's okay. You can order whatever you want to eat."

"If he wants to eat, he can order it himself."

"I want to order something. If you're not considerate, can you just stay quiet, Brother Jade?"

"Wang Phon doesn't ask for kindness," Jade said, raising an eyebrow at his younger brother before turning his gaze to look out the window.

"Brother," Jay turned to order two desserts from the waiter before turning back to look at Khamin. "Brother Min, can I ask you a question?"

“Ask me.”

"Why did you move here?"

“The previous lieutenant was ordered to be dismissed, so he came.”

“Is that all?”

“This place is far from the city.”

"Then, when you come to work here, won't your girlfriend miss you?" Jade rolled his eyes at his brother's many flirting jokes.

"I don't have a girlfriend," Jay smirked, resting his chin in his hand and looking at Khamin with a pleading expression in his eyes.

“Do you really not have a girlfriend?”

“What kind of answer do you want?”

"As you said, you don't have a girlfriend and allowed me to try flirting with you."

"I'm going to throw up." Dessert was served at the table after Jade finished speaking. "Hurry up and finish eating so we can go home."

“Since you’ve been here, you haven’t gone anywhere, right? Should I take you?”

"I have to work"

“I don’t have class tomorrow, okay? Noon is fine. I’ll pick you up.”

"You should use the time you would spend flirting with other people to pass your exams instead."

“In case you don’t know, Brother Jade, I always score well on my tests, and my grades are very good too.”

"And in case you don't know, Jay, the adults work every day."

"Stop arguing, you two. I'll go answer the phone." Khamin held up the phone screen, showing an incoming call for the two of them to see, then got up and went outside to answer it, leaving the two siblings, who were looking at each other and winking. Khamin walked out to the front of the store and then answered the phone, which had been vibrating nonstop until now.

"What's up, Nick?"

[I already have the information you asked for. I've already sent it to you via email, but please call me just in case.]

"Thank you very much."

[This matter also concerns high-ranking officials. You'd better be careful. There are a lot of people who dislike you.]

"Tee, that's good. At first, I thought I was just going to look for information, but now that I know this, I want to destroy it and be done with it."

[Go ahead, Inspector Khamin. I'd love to see them running around, too. If you need any help, just let me know.]

"Thank you, Nikolai." After hanging up, Khamin sighed. But as he was about to walk back to the entrance of the shop, he was blocked by a young man who seemed about the same age as him. The man in front of him was tall and slender, wearing a suit and tie. He thought that the smell of alcohol, his flushed face and watery eyes were too close to him. "Excuse me, can I get through?"

"Let's talk first." The tone of voice made Khamin sigh.

"If you're drunk, call a car to take you home. I'm leaving." Khamin chose to walk away because he didn't want to hold a grudge against a drunk person, but the young man grabbed his arm.

"Take me there, and I'll reward you handsomely." The sharp face leaned down so close that the tip of his nose almost touched Khamin's cheek, but it didn't come close because a pair of hands pushed the man's head away, and the other hand pulled Khamin closer.

"What's wrong, Min?" Jay was the owner of the hand and the chest that Khamin was leaning against right now.

"You're so drunk and causing trouble like this. Should you go home peacefully or spend the night in jail? Choose." Jade stood before Khamin and his opponent. His broad back looked quite reliable. After receiving both stares and threats, the drunken young man regained his senses and immediately ran to hail a taxi.

“Why did you come out?”

"I saw you've been out for a long time, so I thought it would be better if you just came out and went back."

"Then who paid for the food?"

"I-" Jade turned around before prying Khamin out of his brother's arms.

"I'll give you the money."

"Now, let's get in the car. It's going to rain." The three of them got in the car and headed home. Khamin still wasn't used to being in the same room with other people like this, but it wasn't too bad. The two siblings didn't bother him much when he was in the room. It was quite private.

After returning, showering and changing into his pyjamas, Khamin prepared his wallet and knocked on his coworker Jade's bedroom door. He didn't wait long before the other man opened the door, wearing a grey towel wrapped around his waist. Again...

“When will I stop seeing you like this?”

“What's wrong with me in this state?” Beautiful tanned skin, thick chest and arms, broad shoulders, six well-sculpted abs, a pronounced V-line all the way to the part that was covered under the towel, and of course, the tattoo on his arm looked good too. Overall, there was nothing wrong with it, but Khamin just felt it was an eyesore.

“How much is the food? I’ll give you the money.”

“Come in.”

"Not entering"

“The receipt is in the bag.”

“Just tell me the price.”

“I don’t remember.” Jade shifted slightly to make room for someone to walk in. “It’s up to you whether you want to come in or not.”

Khamin didn't want to owe the person in front of him anything anymore. After all, he had said he was treating him to this meal. It wouldn't be right for the host to pay for it. Khamin chose to walk past him before crossing his arms and looking at Jade with an unfriendly gaze.

“Go and get it quickly.”

“Who gave the order?”

“Who is your leader?”

“This is not a workplace, and it’s not work time.”

"Khun Jade"

“Wanna try another position?” Jade walked closer before leaning down so that his face was level with Khamin.

“What status do you want?” Not only did he not avert his gaze, but Khamin moved his face closer and teased back.

"Then what status do you think we're suitable for?" Jade smiled and moved his face closer to Khamin until their noses touched.

“Is it appropriate for someone to order a suspension from work to be suspended from work?” Khamin said with a smile before retreating.

"Tee, that's okay. Jay didn't respond as strongly as I did."

That’s a kid. Quickly get the receipt. I’m going to bed.”

“It's gone.”

"Are you bothering me, Mr Jade?" Jade pretended not to know anything before leaning against the edge of the desk.

"I don't know where it's gone. Let's treat you to another meal."

“Then take three thousand.”

“Where is the cost of food worth three thousand?”

"Then why didn't you say you couldn't remember?" Jade shrugged lightly before looking at Khamin. "Hurry up and take it."

“My hands are full.” Khamin pressed his tongue against his cheek, venting his frustration. He walked up to the tall man and stuffed three grey bills into the edge of the towel, easily earning a laugh from Jade. “You’re the first person to do this to me.”

“You’re being dramatic. It can’t be helped.” Khamin glanced at the transparent board behind him. It had pictures and messages on neatly arranged Post-it notes, all about the case they were working on. “Any new information?”

"Not yet, but I'm wondering."

“What’s the matter?” The two of them broke up and turned to the board at the same time, each with information about this mysterious murder case.

“If everyone really died after receiving the letter, then Fai, who was the first, should also get it, right?”

“Probably yes.”

“And where is that letter?”

“From what I've heard from Fai's parents, they said Fai travels back and forth between home and university. She sometimes sleeps in Cherene's room. But if the letter is in Cherene's room, that kid should be the first to know. I think the letter might still be at home.”

"Then let's go request a search warrant tomorrow."

“Do you remember Tar’s letter?”

"Can remember"

“There was a photograph of a white paper, a black paper; everything was the same as the letter that Tonkla had received, except that one part was missing.”

“Dare, right?”

"Hmm, I don't think the villains would make a difference in the format. If Tar had to choose between Truth and Dare, then everyone else should have a choice.

“There are two possibilities: either it really doesn’t exist, or the kid didn’t tell us everything.”

“Does your little brother know about this?”

"Go ask and you'll find out." Jade walked out of the room without even listening to Khamin's calls.

After walking a few steps, the tall figure stopped in front of his younger brother's room door. He knocked for a long time before the owner of the room came to open the door. Jay was there, wearing grey sweatpants, his upper body bare, leaving Khamin, who came out to see him, with only one question: how the two brothers kept their bodies so good. To build muscles like this, he had to go to the gym for half his life. It's not fair.

"What's wrong? Why are you in this condition? And why is the money there?" Jay, confused, looked at his brother's condition before looking at Khamin. "Brother Min... did you come out of Brother Jade's room?"

“You answer me, Jay. Isn’t that all that’s in the envelope?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t lie to me. Just open your mouth, and I can see your uvula. Answer me, or I’ll throw you and your friend in jail.”

“Tell me, Jay. This is important. If we miss even one thing, you’re all in danger.”

“Sigh, come in first.” I don’t know if it can be called luck that Khamin was able to enter both his elder and younger siblings’ bedrooms like this on the same day.

Jay's room was completely different from Jade's. It was filled with bright lights, posters, and things kids his age liked, unlike Jade's room, which was plain and had little besides his desk.

Jay sat down at the end of the bed and looked at the two people in front of him. One was his older brother, who also served as a good captain. The other, although he looked much cuter, was considered a police officer who could see through people. Even without a lie detector set up here, the two of them should be able to tell if he was going to lie.

“Can you two promise me first that you won’t arrest Kla?”

"I won't promise," Jade replied immediately.

“Then, can we hear its reasoning before we make a proper case?”

“Stop swaying and answer me.”

“Okay, okay. It’s not just that in the letter.”

“What does the message say?”

“What message?”

“Dare?”

“Dare? What do you mean, Brother Min?” Khamin and Jade looked at each other before turning back to look at the boy sitting at the end of the table.

“So what do you mean?”

“In the letter, there was a flash drive. Inside was a video clip from the camera showing Kla hitting someone with a customer's car. But he said he called an ambulance and that he didn't intend to.”

"With a matter like this, are you planning to shut down the police, Jay?"

"Well, he asked me to keep it."

"If you love your friends, have some limits. Your friends will kill you one day."

"What do you mean, Brother Jade?"

“Call Tonkla back and tell him I’ll come get the flash drive tomorrow morning.”

"I know," Jay replied to his brother in annoyance before picking up the phone and dialling Tonkla's number.

“Jay, is that all there is in the letter? Is there anything else they’re hiding?”

"That's all I've given you. What do you mean by Dare?"

“Nothing, just call.” Jay waited for a long time, but no one answered until he swore softly in worry.

"No one answered, bro." Khamin frowned slightly before looking at Jade.

"I'll call and check with the police who were on duty." Khamin followed the tall figure as he scanned the surroundings. He noticed a familiar picture frame on the desk.

"That picture..."

"Yes, it's a photo we took together at the end of our freshman year. It's the photo in that letter."

“Where was the photo taken?”

“At the university.”

“Does everyone have the same picture?”

"Time made it for everyone."

“Time?”

"Yes", Khamin nodded slightly before gathering all the information in his mind.

"Sergeant Chai said there's nothing unusual at Tonkla's dormitory. He hasn't gone anywhere, and no one has entered his room," Jade said, walking in after finishing his phone call. For some reason, Khamin felt something was wrong. It was a lingering doubt, and he still hadn't found a way to solve it.

“Let’s all go rest, Mr Jade. We have work to do early tomorrow. As for you, if you have anything to say, tell us. Don’t try to hide it. Not only are you one of the suspects, but you’re also one of the victims.”

"Do you still think that one of us would do something like this?"

“I never ruled you out as a single suspect.”

"Do you think Tar will be next?" Khamin paused for a moment because he himself wasn't sure what effect Tar's disappearance would have.

"I do not know yet"

"Go to sleep," Jade said to Khamin before walking out of the room.

“I will go with you tomorrow.”

"If you wake up," Jade said, closed the door and punched his younger brother in the face without being gentle before following Khamin to the bedroom.

“Your room is over there.”

"Let's send you to bed."

“Are you here to deliver or to bother me?”

"Come bother me"

"Goodnight, Mr Jade," Khamin said, annoyed. He was about to close the door in his face, but was stopped by a large hand. "What now?"

“Take the money back.”

"No"

"Do you want the money back, or do you want to sleep in my room tonight? Your choice."

"Will you take the money, or will I have to go to work alone tomorrow? Choose." The two stared at each other, neither willing to give in until Jade had to give in first, because the smaller one had been stubborn and wouldn't give in the whole time.

“You said we have something to do early tomorrow. Is there something I don’t know?”

"Subject?"

“My friends at the Special Investigation Unit have already received information about the drugs found on Tar’s body.”

“Do you know anyone from the Special Investigation Unit?”

“Yes, one person. You too?”

“Who do you know?”

“Nikolai, what about you?”

“Yuki”

“Old friend?”

“Something like that.” Khamin looked at the other person’s expression and knew it wasn’t just a friend, as he'd said. But it wasn’t his business anyway.

“Let’s split up. I’m going to bed.”

"Goodnight." Jade gently caressed Khamin's head without thinking before walking back to his room, leaving the person standing there to bite his lip lightly.

No one had ever done this to him!
