Dare You To Death: Solve the Mystery, See the Death.
Investigation Part 12
After sending the letter to Mirin for inspection, Khamin decided to go to his office to rest, but was stopped by someone who had been walking beside him.
“Let's go eat.”
"You go alone. I'll work." Even though he said it to avoid annoyance, when he saw that the other party had gone quiet, Khamin couldn't help but turn to look at him.
“Mr Jade”
“Would you like to go out for dinner together, or should I buy some and eat it in your room?”
“You are really annoying.” Jade suddenly stopped walking before turning to look at Khamin.
“Am I annoying?”
"Yes"
"Then do as you wish. If you don't want to go, then don't go." Jade released Khamin's arm before walking away, leaving behind only the person who was confused about whether what he had just said had made someone angry.
Khamin walked back to his room and collapsed on the sofa, exhausted. He had only slept a few hours since he started working on this case. The trouble was truly endless. The sound of a phone ringing beside him made Khamin pick it up without opening his eyes to look at the name on the screen. He was already extremely sleepy.
"Hello"
[With that kind of sawing noise, don't tell me you've met another boring person there.]
"Tee, it's less than the police department. Calling like this, has the package I sent arrived yet?"
[Um, I just received it ten minutes ago. I'm having a friend check it for me. It might take a while.]
"Thank you"
[So, how was it moving there?]
“It’s good. The people here are all hard-working, even though some of them can be annoying.”
[I've heard that there are many skilled officers there, but the previous lieutenant took bribes in almost every case involving high-ranking officials. This was to cover up his own shoddy work so that they couldn't showcase their abilities. With Inspector Khamin working alongside him, it's likely that instead of not working, he'll be working so hard that he won't even have time to rest, right?]
“It probably isn’t as hard as the special investigation unit headed by Mr Nikolai.”
[Let's say that if I hear anything, I'll call and tell you.]
"Thank you." Khamin hung up the phone with his old friend, the head of the Special Investigations Unit. He had known Nikolai since he first moved to the Thai branch, but at first, it was only superficial. It wasn't until he started having problems with the police department that they talked more often. When he went to the headquarters, they recognised each other's potential and grew closer.
He sent the test results and the drugs he had taken from Tar's body to them for further investigation, hoping to get more information. He hoped it would help find clues about the perpetrator before another incident occurred. He immediately teased the station captain, who was carrying a plastic bag containing nearly fifteen lunch boxes, with a bored expression on his face. The subordinates who saw this said, “Oh, I haven’t eaten with our captain in a long time. I miss him, I miss him.”
"How can I eat it? The captain went to eat it with Inspector Noon." The officers stationed at the complaint desk all laughed together. Jade just grabbed a nearby water bottle and threw it at them.
"Today, Captain, aren't you going out to deal with the case with the Inspector?"
"I'm out. I'm back. I'm waiting for information. Here's some rice. Share it." Jade handed the bag containing several boxes of rice to his subordinates before carrying the bags of separated rice boxes up to the police lieutenant's room, which his subordinates had been teasing him about earlier.
As he arrived, he peered inside. When he didn't see Khamin at his desk, Jade took the liberty of opening the door and entering the room. He found the person who had chased him away lying on the sofa with his arms crossed. His usually clear face had a determined, serious look. His pearly eyelids were now tightly closed, leaving only a faint trace of exhaustion.
"And you still won't eat?" Jade grumbled a little before placing the lunchbox on the table. The sound of a plastic bag woke Khamin up, and he slowly opened his eyes. When he saw someone looking at him, he turned back towards the back of the chair.
"Do whatever you want; I'm going to sleep." The sawing sound made Jade laugh in his throat.
"If you want to sleep, go ahead and sleep. I just bought you some food. When you wake up, come and eat with me." He didn't bother pestering the sleeping person, so he just turned off the light before walking out of the room.
Khamin remained silent for a long moment before turning back to look at the bag on the table. He was sleepy, but his hunger was even greater. He stood up, twisted his body slightly, and picked up the lunchbox, opened it, and ate without rushing. The information he had was rather limited. If he continued investigating, he probably wouldn't find much more. The rest would have to wait for details from forensic and medical sources. When he had more information, he would talk about it.
Jade went to change clothes in the station's shower room. There is a gym, showers, and lockers for all officers. Previously, the budget for this area had been cut because high-ranking officials didn't use it, so it was deemed unimportant. Until Jade submitted a petition stating that it was a welfare benefit for officers, he received a small budget increase, plus his own money to supplement it. It turned out better than expected. Everyone was able to make good use of it, regardless of their position.
The tall figure was dressed in tight black sweatpants and a tank top, highlighting his chest, arm muscles, and tattoos. The wolf's arm spread to his shoulder blades. Jade tightened his muscles a bit before using jet-black hand wraps to wrap the small joints of both palms. Then he walked over to do some light warm-ups on the large sandbag, which was starting to show signs of deterioration. Jade only took ten minutes to warm up before he started for real.
“Captain.”
"Speak," Sergeant Prai, who had just walked in, saw the sight of a large man violently punching and kicking a sandbag. She had to shout to compete with the clanging of his fists and kicks against the sandbag.
“I followed them to the university. Did you hear that, Captain?!”
"I heard it. So what?" Sergeant Prai took a deep breath before shouting again.
"The kids named Bell, Champ, Cherene, and Tonkla didn't go to school. They all dispersed!" Jade threw one last punch before stopping.
"Where did those four people go?"
"The captain told me to follow the most suspicious person, so I followed the boy named Tonkla because I read in the police report that the boy was also at the scene of the second victim."
"So what did you get?"
“He went to a car repair shop not far from the university. It seems that kid was working part-time there.”
"Um"
“But the strange thing is that I saw him answer a call from someone, and then he looked irritated before going back to his room.”
“No weirdos followed that kid, right?”
"No"
"Thank you very much. Go rest." Jade thought that the caller must have something interesting. He had to investigate a bit to see who these kids were hiding.
The station captain paused his exercise for a moment before going into the shower to wash off the sweat from his workout. However, before he could even get dressed, he heard a familiar voice calling out from the front.
"Khun Jade"
"The bathroom." The sound of footsteps approaching made Jade smile, and he wrapped a towel around his waist before walking out. Just as Khamin arrived, the small person bumped into his chest.
"Why didn't you tell me you were going out?"
“I saw you calling me, so I came out to find you.”
“Go get dressed properly and then come out.”
“We can talk like this. I don’t mind.”
"But I'm holding it." Jade lifted Khamin's chin to meet his gaze. The corners of his mouth lifted playfully, just like Khamin, who was smiling at Jade. His small hands moved to grab his thick waist before gently rubbing it.
"I'll give you five minutes to get dressed. I'll meet you at the car." After he finished speaking, the slender hand that had been stroking her waist moved to remove the towel from the person in front of him. Then, he turned around and walked out of the bathroom, taking the towel with him.
“Khamin!”
Khamin didn't pay any attention to the shouts behind him. When he reached the front of the gym, the vibrating phone in his pocket caught his attention, and he picked it up. The towel in his hand was handed to the staff member who was standing there, unaware, and downing a drink.
"What is it, Inspector?"
"Return the item to the captain. Hello, Jay." The person who received the item was extremely confused, but suddenly, his face turned red for no reason. The more he saw the captain's hurried and irritated expression, the more his thoughts became more and more bizarre.
"I... Captain."
"What"
"S...Sergeant, please return this to me." The new kid handed the cloth back to him, avoiding eye contact. Jade snatched it back and held it before following the person who stole it to the car.
"Troublemaker"
Khamin came in, sat in the car, and waited while talking on the phone.
“Are you sure it’s a white envelope with Truth or Tare written on it?”
[I think so. Brother Min, come and take a look.]
"So, you're with Tonkla now, right?"
[Yes, he called me and told me about the letter, so I came right away. I couldn't get through to P'Jade, so I called you instead.]
“Lock the door. Don’t open it for anyone until I get there. Understand?”
[I understand. Please drive carefully.]
“Hmm.” As soon as he hung up, the other door opened immediately, revealing the person who had just shoved himself into the car, even though I was soaking wet.
“You’re late. Not only did you get my car wet in more than five minutes, but you also got it wet.”
“Who is it for?” Khamin didn’t care about the stares he was getting. He just drove out of the station, following the GPS directions.
“Your brother called.”
“Jay?”
“Do you have another younger brother?”
“Why did he call?”
"He said that Sapling called to say that he received a letter."
"Where are those two now?"
"Tonkla Room"
"Or was it because that kid was there and became the next person?"
"I'm not sure. I'll find out when I look at the letter."
The room in the dormitory wasn't very spacious. There was only a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a separate bathroom. Jay was sitting and looking at a white envelope on the living room table with curiosity. It was printed in black ink and addressed to the current room owner.
"When did you get this letter?" Jay asked before looking at Tonkla, who had just walked over with a glass of water.
"I got it from the dormitory's legal department this morning."
“What's inside?”
"You just look at it," Jay sighed. He asked because he didn't want to pick it up to look at it, afraid that there would be fingerprints on it, making it harder for Khamin to check. Seeing his friend's expression, Tonkla could guess, so he picked it up and poured it onto the table, then spread it out for Jay to look at one by one.
TRUTH OR DARE
THINK
Jay looked through the envelope: the white paper, the black paper, two more photos, and a flash drive. The first picture shows Tonkla stealing from customers at the club where he used to work part-time. The second picture is of all eight of them, but only Pui Fai and Tar have their faces cut off. He looked up at his friend sitting opposite him. Although he didn't look flustered, he could tell that Tonkla was worried and stressed.
"What's on the flash drive?"
"My clip"
“What clip?”
“Promise me that you’ll keep this a secret between you and me. After Phu shows it to you, you won’t tell Brother Jade.”
"I won't promise. Are you crazy, Kla? This is a big deal. Even if you tell me to cover up for the police, what will happen if you die?"
“I think it’s no different between dying and going to jail. What do you want? Are you going to promise me or leave the room?”
"You open it," Jay sighed before looking at Tonkla, who had walked over to pick up his laptop and opened it. Meanwhile, he continued reading the black letter.
TRUTH
“Your love is truly great. So great that it doesn’t matter if others die, right, Tonkla? You know what happened to your friends, right? You know what everyone has to lose, right? You know that Champ really cheated on the test? You know that Tar really drugged women? You know that Bell really hurt women who got involved with her boyfriend? People like you can be bought with money. Then take the money you got and spend it in hell!!!!
When Jay finished reading the letter, his eyebrows immediately knitted together. He knew one of two things: that Bell had assaulted a woman who had come to cling to her boyfriend. There was once when he had intervened. But the rest of the story, he had never known before.
When he looked up at the laptop screen, he was even more shocked. The opening clip was from the auto repair shop where Tonkla worked. He really did take a customer's car for a drive. The reason he didn't let him tell P'Jade was that a few minutes later, he hit an old man, sending him flying to the side of the road. There were no cars or people in that area. He went down to look for a few minutes, looking alarmed, before getting in his car and driving away.
"What the hell did you do, Kla?"
“I didn’t mean to. After that, I called an ambulance.”
"Is there anything else I don't know?" Jay saw that his friend was still sitting there, so he went and grabbed Tonkla's collar hard.
"No!!!"
"Are you sure there aren't any? Because right now, I hardly know who you guys are."
"I said no, then it's no." Jay let go of Tonkla's collar before walking out onto the balcony to get some fresh air to calm the simmering emotions he was currently experiencing. He didn't know that another thing he didn't know was...
Within this letter, there was one more thing missing.
Pieces of Dare are missing.
