Chem Chey: English Translation.
"Is this your house?"
"Yeah, it is."
"It's huge."
"Maybe you should get out of the car now."
"Do I look neat enough?"
"If you were any more neat, you'd be wearing a monk's robe."
"I feel like smacking your mouth, Eung."
"Can you hurry up? I need to pee." Akara rolled his eyes as Intha fussed with the collar of his cream-coloured shirt, making sure it was perfectly neat. Intha had buttoned it all the way up to his neck, insisting he needed to look proper before meeting Akara's parents.
That's right, Akara had brought Intha to his family home in the countryside for the long holiday. Intha seemed a little nervous, even though he'd spoken to Akara's father on the phone several times before. Akara's father was excited too, constantly having Akara's mom call to ask where they were. They'd already planned to visit the amulet market near the temple together. What a pair, father-in-law and son-in-law, bonding over amulets.
"I'm a bit nervous, too," Intha said, adjusting the glasses he wore to add to his 'proper look, before stepping out of the car. He looked around, taking in Akara's family home as his feet touched the ground. It was grand and impressive, befitting the owner of a rice mill. Within the same fence, there were several single-story houses. Akara pointed with his lips toward the largest house in the centre.
If Ong saw this, he'd probably say the house's feng shui is top-notch. Intha thought it was pretty great too, even though he didn't know much about feng shui.
"My dad's house is over there, and my house is that one, not far from my dad's place," Akara said, pointing to a simple single-story house surrounded by greenery. It looked cosy and inviting.
"When we're old, can we be Uncle In and Auntie Eung here?"
"Sure."
"Would you want me to come with you?"
"If you're still around by then, I'd want us to live together."
"I'm blushing. Eung-eung invited me to spend our golden years together."
"You started it," Akara said, shaking his head in exasperation before leaning over to see what Intha was pulling out of the back of the car. It looked like a basket of organic fruits and vegetables as a gift. The clothes, however, were still in the car.
"Leave the clothes in the car for now."
"Alright, I'll drive up to park in front of the house. You go greet Dad first. He's probably waiting for dinner."
Intha nodded in agreement and followed Akara toward the large house. He took off his shoes at the door, but when he looked up, he was slightly startled to see a large man with the aura of a village headman standing in the doorway. His stern gaze is just like Eung's. This must be his father.
"Hello, sir," Intha greeted.
"Yeah, Hi..." Whoa, his voice is intimidating. This is bad.
"Dad! What's there to eat? I'm hungry," Akara interrupted.
"You just got here, and you're already asking about food? Take him to get a drink first."
"I need to piss."
"Who taught you to talk like that? So rude," his father said, raising a hand as if to smack Akara. But Akara, small as he was, didn't flinch, knowing his dad wouldn't actually hit him. It was Intha who flinched, glancing nervously between the father's hand and his partner.
"I really need to pee."
"Go, go. Get out of here. In, come inside. I'll have someone get you a drink."
"Thank you, sir." Intha felt relieved when Akara's father didn't actually hit him. He followed Akara into the house, and the tense atmosphere eased when Akara's mom appeared.
"You're even more handsome in person," she complimented as soon as she saw him. The genes of Intha's perfect guy were clearly top-tier.
"Thank you, ma'am. You're very beautiful, too. I brought some fruit as a gift. Please enjoy it," Intha said, handing the basket to Akara's father. The man accepted it and slapped the dining table loudly, signalling Intha to sit.
"Where's Big Boss?" Akara's mom asked.
"In the bathroom."
"Oh, pissing."
"Now I know where Big Boss gets it from," Akara's father muttered. Intha lowered his head, hiding a small smile. Akara might look like his dad, but his personality seemed more like his mom's. Heh, Big Boss, huh? Haha, Big Boss!
"Big Boss said you like spicy food, so I made some dishes with strong flavours. I hope you like them," Akara's mom said.
"I can eat anything, ma'am, except vegetables," Intha replied with a sweet smile, his grin widening when he saw the vegetable-free dishes in front of him. Normally, he wasn't this quick to smile, but he had to make an effort. He didn't want to disappoint his future in-laws.
"Are you gossipin' about me?"
Akara had finished peeing and was now rolling up his sleeves as he approached the dining table. He plopped down next to Intha, resting his chin on his shoulder before starting to chatter.
"Who wouldn't gossip about you? What's your virtue to praise for?"
"Plenty! I'm gorgeous, right, Hia?" Akara turned to his partner, who nodded in agreement, causing Akara's imaginary horse to prance with pride. Whatever his wifey said, Intha agreed. That's love.
"Absolutely, Big Boss."
"Who taught you to call me by this name?"
"I'm just calling you by the name your parents called."
"...”
"Just so you know, Big Boss, your hubby has already been bought by us."
Akara growled under his breath and scooted away from Intha, sulking as he quietly served himself some rice. I'm not talkin' to him anymore. Nope, not at all! Our love is over. Remember!
"Who's the most handsome~"
"Me, me!"
"Gotcha."
"I ain't playin'!" Akara turned away from Intha, covering his ears and pouting. At the table, Intha maintained a polite demeanour, but under the table, he kept nudging Akara's foot with his own. How did I fall in love with someone like this? I don't understand myself.
"Who's the most..."
"Enough!!!"
After dinner, Intha was dragged into the prayer room by his father-in-law to admire his amulet collection. Meanwhile, Akara played the role of a housewife, washing dishes, organising the dry goods his mom insisted they take back to Bangkok, chatting with her a bit more, and seeing her off to bed. Then he went to his own house to shower. When he returned, Intha was still deep in conversation with his father-in-law. Dad, please give me my hubby back.
"Dad, Hia... are you plannin' to talk all night?" Akara finally decided to open the door to the prayer room. What he saw was Intha holding a large magnifying glass, his bangs tied up in a little tuft, sweat beading on his temples, and his sleeves rolled up as he examined the amulets with intense focus. When Intha noticed Akara at the door, he raised an eyebrow before turning to his father-in-law and asking, "If I marry Eung, do I get all these amulets?"
"Wait until I'm dead, and I'll leave them to you as an inheritance, son."
"I'll definitely marry him, then," Intha said, hissing through his teeth as he carefully placed an amulet back on the tray. He seemed genuinely appreciative of the collection, which made Akara roll his eyes.
"I'm not marryin' you," Akara declared.
"Why not?"
"I'm afraid of being possessed."
"Ridiculous."
"If you're not goin' to bed, stay here. I'm goin' to sleep. The car's parked in front of the house, and I've already brought the clothes inside. The house won't be locked. Bye." Akara finished speaking and prepared to close the door, too tired to care anymore. But...
"Big Boss's mad at you, son. You can look at the amulets tomorrow," his father-in-law said.
"Alright, sir. I'll have to make up with him."
"What are all these dad and son-in-law things? Ew, I can't take it. And I'm not mad, just so you know," Akara said, making a face. He intended to shut the door and head back to his own house to sleep, but before the door could close, Intha's pale hand stopped it.
"Excuse me, sir. I'll take my leave now," Intha said.
"Go ahead, son."
Intha gently closed the door, then wrapped an arm around Akara's waist. Leaning down, he whispered into Akara's ear.
"Eung, I'm dizzy. I've been staring at amulets for too long."
"Serves you right. And why does he keep callin' you 'son'?"
"Well, he's your dad, so I'm his son-in-law."
"Ugh, whatever makes you happy. As long as you two get along, I'm fine."
"Have you showered and gotten ready for bed?" Intha asked as they stood outside Akara's house. The cool countryside air was refreshing at night. Intha stretched lazily, waiting for Akara to walk alongside him.
"I showered while you were busy with the amulets."
"If I shower now, the water's gonna be freezing."
"There's a water heater. Don't worry."
Intha glanced at his watch and widened his eyes slightly when he saw the time.
"It's this late already?"
"If it weren't, I wouldn't have gone to get you."
"Alright, I'll shower quickly." Intha removed his shoes again at the entrance to Akara's house, standing still as he waited for Akara to unlock the door. Once inside, he noticed the simple decor: a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room, and two bedrooms.
"No need to rush. Since when do you think I'm an early sleeper?"
"Okay, wait for me, Big Boss."
"Say that again, and I'll really smack your mouth. Stop teasin' me, please. I'm askin' nicely."
"Little one," Intha tried a different term. Akara smirked slightly but kept his arms crossed and his face stern.
"My dear Akara."
"Go shower already. Stop playin' 'round," Akara said, his tone light as he pointed toward the living room.
"Then come watch a movie with me. A horror movie. I'm too scared to watch it alone."
"Your wish is my command, darling."
"Still jokin' around, huh?"
"Now, where's the bathroom~?"
Intha hummed a tune as he searched for the bathroom and took a quick shower. It didn't take him long to freshen up before he joined Akara on the same couch. The princess of the family had even prepared snacks to munch on. Weight gain? Not a prob. Cause who cares?
Then the horror movie Akara had wanted to watch began. For Intha, it wasn't scary at all, and Akara's expression remained neutral as well. He'd expected some screaming and clinging.
"Eung, it's so scary!"
Guess I'll act it out myself. Just want to cuddle my wifey.
"Nonsense. I saw you yawnin' like you were about to fall asleep."
"Then can I sleep on your lap?"
"Should I just turn it off and let you sleep properly?" Akara suggested, finding the supposedly terrifying movie Narisa had hyped up to be incredibly dull. Akara wasn't afraid of ghosts. And Intha? Even less so.
That guy was nuts. He once said that if he ever encountered a ghost, he'd interrogate it about the afterlife so he could prepare himself for living there and avoid any hardships. Always wants it comfortable, this guy.
"No, I'm still watching. I want to see how it ends."
"Alright, then. Go ahead and lie on my lap."
"Eung..."
"What?"
"When I said I'd marry you, I wasn't joking."
The hand resting on Intha's shoulder began to move. Akara slid it to rest on Intha's broad forehead, gently running his fingers through Intha's soft hair.
"Don't propose to me while we're watchin' a horror movie."
"I'm not proposing now, but when I do, promise me you won't say no."
"Alright, I'll wait for that day."
"Whose wifey is this? So adorable," Intha said, flipping onto his back to look up at Akara. His long fingers played with Akara's perfectly shaped chin. "I love you."
"I know. I love you, too."
"Confessing love while watching a horror movie, huh?"
"..."
"How about we make some other kind of movie? I'll perform for you."
"Draggin' me into something dirty again. Who are you plannin' to perform with? Speak up."
"Whosever lap I'm lying on, obviously." Intha shifted, kneeling on the floor in front of Akara. He spread Akara's knees apart and slid between them. He pressed a kiss to the front of Akara's pants, his sweet eyes glancing up at the man who let out a soft sound.
"Might as well make use of the change in scenery."
"Don't forget we have to go make merit with my dad tomorrow mornin'."
"I'll definitely be able to get up."
"Alright, just carry me along with you then."
Akara sighed, too tired to argue or stop Intha. Fine, whatever makes him happy...
A sexy movie unfolded alongside the horror movie. There were no screams of fear, though. But moans of passion? Well, perhaps!
